Senior full-stack engineer building frontend (React/TypeScript) and backend (Python/Go) services, APIs, and AI-integrated developer tools for aerospace and defense customers. Collaborate with product and design, engage customers, improve CI/CD and developer workflows, and deliver secure, high-performance systems for regulated or air-gapped environments.

We’re looking for a full-stack, senior engineer to join our team building modern web applications, developer tools, and AI-powered workflows for aerospace and defense customers.

This team sits closest to the user. We build the interfaces, APIs, and intelligent tooling that engineers rely on to do mission-critical work. You’ll work across the stack — from React and TypeScript on the frontend to Python and Go services on the backend — delivering secure, high-performance systems in complex environments.

This role is ideal for engineers who care deeply about understanding customer needs, enjoy working directly with product and design, and want to build tools for sophisticated technical users.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Build Across the Stack: Develop modern frontend applications using TypeScript and React. Design and implement backend services in Python and Go. Build clean, well-tested APIs that power complex engineering workflows. Contribute to system architecture with an eye toward scalability, reliability, and security.

  • Solve Real Customer Problems: Engage directly with product managers, designers, and occasionally customers to understand real-world workflows. Translate ambiguous user needs into thoughtful technical solutions. Iterate quickly, validate assumptions, and refine features based on feedback.

  • Improve Developer & AI Tooling: Build internal and customer-facing developer tools, SDKs, and workflow automation systems. Integrate AI capabilities (LLMs, retrieval systems, copilots) into product experiences. Help improve CI/CD, local development environments, and engineering productivity.

  • Operate in Mission-Critical Environments: Build systems that function reliably in secure, regulated, or air-gapped settings. Balance speed with correctness, performance, and long-term maintainability.

Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of professional software engineering experience.

  • Strong experience with JavaScript/TypeScript and modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React).

  • Experience building backend systems in Python, Go, or similar languages.

  • Demonstrated ability to ship full-stack features end-to-end.

  • Product-minded: you seek to understand the “why,” not just implement tickets.

  • Comfortable working in ambiguity and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

  • Must be a US citizen living within the United States.

  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building developer tools or technical user-facing products.

  • Experience integrating AI into software products (LLMs, embeddings, AI-assisted workflows).

  • Background in aerospace, defense, digital engineering, or other regulated domains.

  • Experience with secure or air-gapped environments.

Austin’s tech scene spans many verticals, but it’s particularly known for hardware, including semiconductors, as well as AI, biotechnology and cloud computing. And its food and music scene, low taxes and favorable climate has made the city a destination for tech workers from across the country.

Key Facts About Austin Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 180,500; 13.7% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Dell, IBM, AMD, Apple, Alphabet
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, hardware, cloud computing, software, healthtech
  • Funding Landscape: $4.5 billion in VC funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Live Oak Ventures, Austin Ventures, Hinge Capital, Gigafund, KdT Ventures, Next Coast Ventures, Silverton Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Texas, Southwestern University, Texas State University, Center for Complex Quantum Systems, Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, Texas Advanced Computing Center
