About Whisker Labs

Whisker Labs is the company behind Ting, an electrical fire prevention sensor active in more than 1.3 million homes across North America. A single Ting sensor takes 30 million measurements per second; across the fleet, the result is one of the largest continuous, high-resolution datasets ever assembled on the residential electrical grid.

Ting’s sensor fleet captures, in real time, what’s actually happening on the grid downstream of grid-side sensors. Utility operations and planning teams can use this distributed telemetry to improve the reliability and resilience of an electrical grid under unprecedented pressure. Ting Data Products is a new line of business that packages this data — via APIs, files, dashboards, and other interfaces — for utilities and other institutional buyers who can put it to work. Visit tingfire.com for more information.

About the Role

We are hiring a Senior Product Manager to build Ting Data Products into a scaled product line. You will act as the product lead for this new solution      — owning strategy, roadmap, customer relationships, GTM influence, and the data products themselves.

This role sits at the intersection of technical work (data pipelines, APIs, data product design) and customer work — understanding utility operations, engineering, and planning teams clearly enough to know what they need. You’ll design solutions that scale: APIs, data integrations, files, and visualizations

What You’ll Own

  • Vision and strategy. Set the North Star direction for Ting Data Products and the strategy to realize the vision in concert with company leadership.
  • The customer. Be the in-house expert on grid data needs — what grid teams use today and what they would use if they could get it. Run discovery, build durable feedback loops, and translate insight into the product roadmap.
  • The product. Define a focused set of data products — APIs, files, dashboards, alerts — built on common foundations that serve many customers. Decide what to build, what to package, and how customers will integrate.
  • Roadmap definition and delivery. Define and ship the roadmap to make progress towards the vision. Partner with design and engineering to shape the scope of each release and ensure a high-quality customer experience. Measure customer and business impact after each release.
  • Go-to-market influence. Shape positioning, messaging, pricing and packaging, sales enablement, and launch plans. Be the product’s authority in sales conversations and customer demos.
  • Scalable product practice. Build the roadmapping, prioritization, and release-planning practices this product line needs as it scales.
  • AI-native operating. Use modern AI tools fluently across research, prototyping, writing, and analysis — at the pace senior PMs are now expected to work.

What We’re Looking For

Technical depth

  • 8+ years of product management experience, primarily in B2B.
  • 3+ years building data products — APIs, real-time feeds, structured datasets, or other customer-facing data offerings.
  • Strong understanding of how data buyers consume third-party data — what teams need from a data product they can rely on day-to-day.
  • Engineering background strongly preferred — you can sketch an API, reason about pipeline tradeoffs, and hold your own in architecture conversations.
  • An appetite to go deep on the underlying domain: electrical telemetry and grid operations.

Business acumen

  • Excellent communication, presentation skills, and executive presence.
  • Comfortable carrying both technical and business conversations in customer settings, from utility engineers to utility VPs.
  • Track record of translating ambiguous customer needs into repeatable product requirements that serve multiple buyers.
  • Strong instinct for pricing, packaging, and what makes a B2B data product commercially viable.

Operating style

  • 3+ years in a growth-stage startup environment — you’re at home with ambiguity, pace, and the swings of building something new.
  • AI-native operator. You can name the specific AI tools and workflows you use day-to-day and explain how they’ve changed what you produce and how fast.
  • A natural bridge between engineers and business stakeholders.
  • Process-minded in a builder’s way: lightweight processes that scale with the team, not for their own sake.

Nice to Haves

  • Experience building data products from sensor or hardware-generated data.
  • Experience with electric utilities or other institutional buyers of grid or infrastructure data.
  • Familiarity with utility operations, distribution engineering, or grid planning workflows.

Why Join Us?

By joining our team, you will have the opportunity to be a part of a groundbreaking technology that is creating a new category while helping to protect families, homes, and communities from the devastating impacts of electrical fires. What you need to know about the Austin Tech Scene

Austin has a diverse and thriving tech ecosystem thanks to home-grown companies like Dell and major campuses for IBM, AMD and Apple. The state’s flagship university, the University of Texas at Austin, is known for its engineering school, and the city is known for its annual South by Southwest tech and media conference. Austin’s tech scene spans many verticals, but it’s particularly known for hardware, including semiconductors, as well as AI, biotechnology and cloud computing. And its food and music scene, low taxes and favorable climate has made the city a destination for tech workers from across the country.

Key Facts About Austin Tech

  • Number of Tech Workers: 180,500; 13.7% of overall workforce (2024 CompTIA survey)
  • Major Tech Employers: Dell, IBM, AMD, Apple, Alphabet
  • Key Industries: Artificial intelligence, hardware, cloud computing, software, healthtech
  • Funding Landscape: $4.5 billion in VC funding in 2024 (Pitchbook)
  • Notable Investors: Live Oak Ventures, Austin Ventures, Hinge Capital, Gigafund, KdT Ventures, Next Coast Ventures, Silverton Partners
  • Research Centers and Universities: University of Texas, Southwestern University, Texas State University, Center for Complex Quantum Systems, Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, Texas Advanced Computing Center
