We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.

Job Summary:

We are looking for a talented and experienced iOS Software Engineer to join our mobile engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining high-quality iOS applications that serve hundreds of millions of PayPal customers globally. You will work closely with product managers, designers, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver exceptional mobile experiences.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Delivers complete solutions spanning all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) (design, implementation, testing, delivery and operations), based on definitions from more senior roles.
  • Advises immediate management on project-level issues
  • Guides junior engineers
  • Operates with little day-to-day supervision, making technical decisions based on knowledge of internal conventions and industry best practices
  • Applies knowledge of technical best practices in making decisions

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications:

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and ship high-quality, scalable iOS features and components for the PayPal consumer application

  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested Swift/Objective-C code with a focus on performance and reliability

  • Collaborate with product, design, and backend engineering teams to define technical requirements and deliver end-to-end features

  • Lead technical design discussions and contribute to architectural decisions for mobile systems

  • Conduct thorough code reviews to uphold engineering best practices and coding standards

  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, memory issues, and crashes in production

  • Champion mobile engineering best practices including CI/CD, automated testing, and accessibility

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the growth of the iOS engineering team

  • Stay current with the latest iOS platform updates, tools, and industry trends

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)

  • 5+ years of professional iOS development experience

  • Proficiency in Swift; working knowledge of Objective-C

  • Strong understanding of iOS frameworks including UIKit, SwiftUI, CoreData, CoreLocation, and Combine

  • Experience with RESTful APIs, JSON, and mobile networking patterns

  • Solid understanding of iOS memory management, multithreading, and performance optimization

  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail

  • Experience writing unit and UI tests (XCTest, Quick/Nimble)

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience building and shipping applications with millions of active users

  • Knowledge of mobile security best practices, including secure data storage and authentication

  • Experience with payments, fintech, or commerce-related applications

  • Familiarity with A/B testing frameworks and feature flagging tools

  • Contributions to open-source iOS projects or a strong public portfolio

  • Experience with React Native or cross-platform mobile frameworks

  • Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG, VoiceOver)

The base pay for this role will depend on where you work and the relevant experience and expertise you bring. The expected range of pay for this role by location is:

Primary Location | Pay Range:

Austin, Texas | ($130,500.00 - $193,600.00 Annually)

Additional Location(s) | Pay Range:

San Jose, California | ($143,500.00 - $212,850.00 Annually)

Additional compensation for this role may include an annual performance bonus, equity, or other incentive compensation, as applicable.
