About the team & opportunity

What’s so great about working on Calendly’s Engineering team?

We make things possible for our customers through innovation.

Why do we need you? Well, we are looking for a Staff Platform Engineer who will bring operational maturity, strong software engineering expertise, deep hands-on experience with Kubernetes and its APIs, and a strong drive to make an impact.  You will report to the Head of Infrastructure and will be responsible for successful delivery of Infrastructure roadmap objectives, with the goal of providing a self-service platform that allows product developers to independently operate Calendly’s services.
This is a hands-on software engineering role focused on building platform capabilities on top of Kubernetes, rather than primarily administering infrastructure or managing deployments.

A day in the life of a Staff Platform Engineer at Calendly

On a typical day, you will be working on:

  • Designing and building software, APIs, and automation that extend Calendly's internal developer platform and enable self-service infrastructure capabilities
  • Leading technical design and architectural decisions for Kubernetes-based platform capabilities that improve developer productivity and operational efficiency
  • Exercising deep expertise in cloud infrastructure concepts and patterns
  • Offering and evangelizing patterns for application teams to consume for cloud native applications development
  • Fostering a collaborative environment of learning and knowledge dissemination

What do we need from you?

  • 10+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure and/or software development
  • Strong software engineering experience building production systems and APIs, ideally using Go (Golang). Experience in another modern programming language is welcome, with the ability and interest to develop in Go
  • Deep, hands-on Kubernetes expertise, including designing, building, and operating production systems that leverage Kubernetes APIs. Experience developing Kubernetes controllers, operators, or other Kubernetes-native platform capabilities is highly valued
  • Demonstrated experience leading complex technical initiatives, influencing architectural decisions, and driving adoption of engineering solutions across multiple teams
  • An eagerness and drive to teach, share your knowledge, and mentor others
  • Comfortable, and practiced, working directly with internal customers to understand needs/requirements and collaborate on solutions
  • Creative problem-solving, a keen eye for detail, and ability to deliver high quality solutions to complex issues
  • Deep experience designing, building, and running highly-available production applications
  • An understanding of the Linux operating system, and systems engineering fundamentals
  • Technical knowledge of cloud infrastructure (especially GCP), distributed systems, and reliability practices
  • Working knowledge of software and infrastructure tuning and observability (especially Datadog)
  • Availability for participation in on-call rotation, ensuring prompt and effective responses to business-critical alerts outside of regular working hours.
  • Authorized to work lawfully in the United States of America as Calendly does not engage in immigration sponsorship at this time
