Staff Power Electronics Engineer

About Us

Graphcore is a globally recognized leader in Artificial Intelligence computing systems. The company designs advanced semiconductors and data center hardware that provide the specialized processing power needed to drive AI innovation, while delivering the efficiency required to support its broader adoption.

As part of the SoftBank Group, Graphcore is a member of an elite family of companies responsible for some of the world’s most transformative technologies.

Job Overview:

Graphcore is seeking a Senior Engineer, Power Engineering to aid in design, test, and development of the power delivery components from grid to chip. You will work closely with multiple cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, firmware developers, and data center operations, to ensure the infrastructure we build meets customer requirements as well as attaining standards of performance, reliability, and scalability.

This role will be hybrid-remote, based in Milpitas, CA and will involve a significant in-laboratory component along with some work-from-home.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the design and specification of the components and systems in the grid-to-chip power chain.
  • Build out the test environment and perform engineering test and validation of the grid-to-chip chain.
  • Design test hardware including the overall test environment, test fixtures, loads, and other devices to simulate various loading conditions and to evaluate the performance of the power chain.  Testing includes basic function testing, robustness and reliability testing, high-power cycle testing, high-bandwidth power testing, energy storage testing, and numerous other types of tests involved in AI power system validation.
  • Design and prototype custom components as may be needed to support the Graphcore power architecture.  This includes the low-level design of power conversion hardware and rapid prototyping.
  • Support the transition of system designs from test and validation into the manufacturing and production environments
  • Ensure robustness of IT power in the presence of grid disturbances and make sure that IT power loads are compatible with grid power requirements (“good grid power citizen”)
  • Provide guidance to the power equipment manufacturers, ODM and engineering teams on the required testing and validation procedures for power hardware and firmware components.
  • Tackle and resolve sophisticated power hardware and firmware issues as needed.

Required Skills and Experience :

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering,  knowledge of Power Electronics desired.
  • Demonstrated ability in power system and delivery architecture, design, and development.
