Zipline is a well-funded, rapidly growing SaaS company transforming how frontline teams work. We empower the world’s leading brands across retail, healthcare, logistics, and beyond to connect, align, and inspire their employees- from headquarters to the front lines. Our customers consistently give us best-in-class NPS and CSAT scores, and they rave about how Zipline makes their teams’ lives easier and their businesses more effective. We’re also a fully remote company, with passionate employees across the U.S., Canada, and around the globe.
Zipline is the operating system for the frontline, used by hundreds of thousands of store associates and managers every day at some of the world's leading retail brands. As our product and design teams continue to grow, we're investing in the systems and foundations that help us build consistent, high-quality experiences at scale.
We're looking for a Staff Product Designer to lead our Design Systems & Foundations work. This is a senior individual contributor role focused on more than maintaining a component library. You'll build and evolve the design systems, product frameworks, and foundational infrastructure that support product development across Zipline.
Your work will help designers, engineers, and PMs move faster, make better decisions, and create more consistent experiences across the product. You'll partner closely with design leadership, engineering, and product teams to shape how Zipline builds and scales.
Own and evolve ZUI, Zipline's design system, including component architecture, design tokens, accessibility standards, documentation, and implementation quality. Partner closely with engineering to ensure the system evolves alongside our product and technical architecture.
Establish shared interaction patterns, mental models, and design principles that create consistency across the product. Translate learnings from product work into reusable systems, frameworks, and foundations that can scale across teams.
Build the documentation, guidance, and decision-making frameworks that help designers, engineers, and PMs work independently and consistently. Drive adoption of the design system and product foundations across the organization.
Contribute to complex product initiatives, influence long-term product direction, and help define how emerging technologies, including AI, are incorporated into our design practice and workflows.
Experience leading or significantly contributing to a design system at scale
Strong systems thinking across interaction design, workflows, information architecture, and visual design
Proven ability to drive alignment and adoption across cross-functional teams
Excellent visual and interaction design craft
Strong partnership with engineering and understanding of implementation constraints
Comfort working in ambiguity and shaping long-term product foundations
Interest in exploring how AI can improve design workflows and product development
Experience designing for frontline, retail, or operational workflows
Experience in a platform, systems, or other cross-cutting design role
Familiarity with modern design system governance and documentation practices
Experience creating structured design context that can be leveraged by AI tools
This role sits at the center of how Zipline designs and builds products. You'll help define the systems, standards, and foundations that influence work across the entire organization, creating leverage far beyond any single feature or product area.
At Zipline, we're committed to paying our team fairly, transparently, and in a way that supports growth. This role is targeting an annual salary within the US of $178,075 USD to $217,625 USD.
The broad salary ranges reflect the growth someone will experience in the role—from developing skills to reaching expertise within their career level. We've found that hiring team members with the expectation of being accomplished in the role sets them up for success, which for this position on the US band is $178,075 USD. Salaries below this point typically reflect someone with potential but still building the necessary skills, while salaries above are for individuals already excelling in the role, with a deep understanding of Zipline's impact on customers, product, and company.
At Zipline, you'll continue to have career development conversations with your manager to ensure your compensation grows as you advance.
Our salary ranges are determined by market, factoring in our revenue and employee size and paying competitively. In higher cost of living markets, we apply 5-10% multipliers on our ranges, depending on the location, to maintain competitive compensation and reflective of the increased expenses our team members face in those areas. While we primarily hire in Canada and the USA, we are a global employer, and all hiring regions will use the same methodology to determine fair and transparent pay.
Transparency is key to building trust in our compensation process. To better understand how this range is determined, we encourage you to ask as many questions as you'd like about compensation during the interview process to ensure clarity and confidence.
