About the Role
As a Staff Product Manager - Pricing at CharterUP, you’ll join a lean, high-impact team driving the next evolution of products powering our own one of the highest-leverage domains in the business: pricing. A great pricing system is the engine of a healthy marketplace — it drives operator trust, customer satisfaction, and sustainable unit economics. You’ll be responsible for continuing to evolve ours.

You’ll set strategic direction, define the roadmap, and work closely with data science, engineering, and company leadership to build pricing capabilities that improve marketplace performance and deliver the best possible outcomes for customers and operators alike.

This is a role for someone who thinks in systems, thrives on complexity, and wants their work to have direct business impact.

Title: Staff Product Manager - Pricing

Reports to: Chief Product Officer

Location: This position is based in Austin, TX (Hybrid: Monday, Wednesday, Friday in-office).

What You'll Do

  • Product Initiatives: Define and own the vision and multi-quarter roadmap for CharterUP’s pricing systems. Identify and prioritize the highest-leverage opportunities to improve marketplace performance, operator trust, and customer outcomes.
  • Customer-Centric Approach: Partner with engineering to drive the continuous improvement of our pricing infrastructure — improving accuracy, transparency, and the ability to experiment, learn, and scale.
  • Prioritization: Develop a deep understanding of operator behavior, pricing dynamics, and supply-side signals. Use those insights to inform system design and ensure our pricing reflects real-world conditions on both sides of the marketplace.
  • Feature Definition: Translate high-level strategic goals into detailed requirements, user stories, and product specifications. Work closely with engineering and design to ship high-quality product that moves key metrics.
  • Collaborative Development: Collaborate closely with data science to instrument pricing outcomes, design experiments, and translate analytical findings into product decisions. You’re a true partner to data science — not just a consumer of their output.
  • Metrics & Analysis: Define and track success metrics for pricing initiatives. Communicate strategy and progress clearly to executive leadership, sales, and operations — building conviction and creating visibility into outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Work cross-functionally across product, engineering, design, sales, and operations to align on priorities and drive high-quality execution. Set a high bar for product thinking and influence the organization as a senior product leader.

What You'll Bring

  • Experience: 7+ years in product management, with experience owning complex, systems-level domains and driving at least one large-scale transformation. Marketplace, pricing, supply/demand infrastructure, or two-sided platform experience is a strong plus.
  • Startup Mindset: You can operate in ambiguity, drive decisions with incomplete information, and adjust course quickly. CharterUP is growing fast — you’ll need to build the plane while flying it.
  • Communication Skills: You can translate technical complexity into business clarity, and business strategy into engineering priorities. You’re comfortable communicating at every level — from engineering to executive leadership.
  • Technical Acumen: You understand how pricing systems, marketplace algorithms, and supply/demand infrastructure are built. You don’t need to write code, but you can engage deeply with engineers on architecture decisions and tradeoffs.
  • Problem-Solving: You can hold a complex domain in your head — understand how pricing, fleet supply, margin, and operator behavior interlock — and use that to make sequenced, dependency-aware roadmap decisions. You think in systems, not features.
  • Data-Driven Approach: You are genuinely comfortable working with data: reading SQL output, reviewing experiment results, interpreting model outputs, and pressure-testing analytical claims. You can be a real partner to a Staff DS, not just a consumer of their work.
  • Strategic Thinking: You don’t need to ship features every sprint to feel productive. You’re energized by foundational investments and strategic groundwork that compounds over multiple quarters.
  • User-Centric Focus: You understand two-sided marketplace dynamics and have an opinion on how pricing systems should be designed. You can reason about operator economics, margin structures, and customer price sensitivity without needing everything handed to you.
