Staff Software Engineer, Search Experience

At realtor.com®, the Search Results Page (SRP) is our most critical engine—it’s where millions of users make life-changing decisions. We are looking for a Staff Engineer to serve as a technical anchor for our Search Experience team, driving the architectural evolution of our highest-traffic consumer surfaces.

The Role

As a Staff Engineer, you won't just write code; you will define the technical standards for how we deliver search results at scale. You will balance hands-on development with high-level system design, ensuring our frontend and backend systems are resilient, performant, and SEO-dominant.

  • Architectural Leadership: Own the end-to-end architecture of our React/Next.js frontend and Node.js/GraphQL microservices.
  • Performance at Scale: Drive initiatives to optimize Core Web Vitals and SSR strategies. In a high-velocity environment, you ensure our SERP remains the fastest in the industry.
  • AI Strategy & Governance: Lead the integration of AI coding assistants and LLMs into the SDLC. You are responsible for the "human-in-the-loop" verification of AI-generated code regarding security, performance, and long-term maintainability.
  • Cross-Functional Influence: Partner with Product, Data Science, and Design to operationalize machine learning models and predictive analytics into the user experience.
About You
  • Technical Mastery: 10+ years of experience (8+ in modern stacks) with a deep focus on SEO-friendly React architectures and distributed systems.
  • Systems Thinker: Experience in cloud-native design (AWS EC2, ECS, Lambda, S3) and modern data pipelines is an asset. You know how to build for "the next 10x" of traffic.
  • Operational Excellence: Deep understanding of automated deployment, instant provisioning, and building a developer toolchain that minimizes friction.
  • Mentorship & Culture: A natural leader who raises the bar for the entire engineering organization through code reviews, RFCs, and a growth-oriented mindset.
  • Data-Driven: Professional experience implementing complex A/B testing frameworks and deriving actionable insights from high-volume traffic data.
How We Reward You

Realtor.com® is committed to investing in the health and well-being of our employees and their families. Our benefits programs include, but are not limited to:

  • Inclusive and Competitive medical, Rx, dental, and vision coverage
  • Family forming benefits
  • 13 Paid Holidays
  • Flexible Time Off
  • 8 hours of paid Volunteer Time off
  • Immediate eligibility into Company 401(k) plan with 3.5% company match
  • Tuition Reimbursement program for degree and non-degreed programs
  • 1:1 personalized Financial Planning Sessions
  • Student Debt Retirement Savings Match program
  • Free snacks and refreshments in each office location

Here, you’ll partner with a diverse team of experts as you use leading-edge tech to empower everyone to meet a crucial goal: finding their way home. And you’ll find your way home too. At Realtor.com®, you’ll bring your full self to work as you innovate with speed, serve our consumers, and champion your teammates. In return, we’ll provide you with a warm, welcoming, and inclusive culture; intellectual challenges; and the development opportunities you need to grow.
