Job Title: SVP of Card Schemes

About the Role:

The SVP, Card Schemes must have Deep knowledge of and passion for the Payment space and players including Processors, Acquirers, BIN Sponsors, Program Managers and FinTechs. In the role you will be tasked with driving Scheme growth in a highly competitive and margin-compressed environment by integrating Open Banking and Digital Payments while establishing industry alliances and leading all relationships while collaborating closely with various teams.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Lead relationships with all major and local schemes globally – Visa, MC, AXP, Discover, JCB, China Union Pay, Interac, RTR (Canada), and other local networks

2. Work in concert with Product, Risk, Compliance and other cross functional teams in introducing, consuming and launching Scheme products such as Tokenization, ANI (Account Name Identifier), Installments, etc.

3. Define strategic approach to support Nuvei’s growth trajectory with Schemes, Nuvei’s Product team, and Commercial/Sales teams.

4. Lead price and product customization negotiations with Schemes, third party providers, other acquirers and financial institutions

5. Define Pricing strategy and how to best allocate volume to gain best possible pricing with Schemes (i.e., Airline approach) and/or Bank Sponsors in the US (i.e., better pricing for certain MCCs)

6. Support Nuvei’s geographical growth strategy by exploring, pursuing, and implementing Scheme licensing in new entry markets such as Japan, Colombia, and Mexico, just to mention a few. This involves close coordination with Scheme rules and local regulatory requirements.

7. Represent Nuvei in trade shows & industry events, and align with sales team on generating new opportunities.

8. Key contributor to Nuvei’s innovation, creative product development and solutions to enhance Nuvei’s value proposition and assist in closing global strategic deals (i.e., Shein, MoneyGram, Microsoft, etc.)

9. Work with all schemes on gaining insight into Nuvei’s performance compared against a defined benchmark to identify and improve key KPIs such as Approval Rates, Fraud reduction, etc.

More banking focus (North America Centric):

1. Lead and manage relationships with all US Bank Sponsors – this includes C level relationships, pricing, support of growth categories such Stablecoin, Marketplaces, and additional new MCCs.

2. Manage Nuvei Debit routing US strategy by cementing relationships with domestic debit providers, ensuring competitive pricing, and enforcing smart routing opportunities to increase Nuvei’s margins and benefit its merchants’ competitiveness.

3. Work closely with Compliance & Risk teams on addressing, meeting, and enforcing Scheme requirements, Bank Sponsor requirements, and local and regional regulatory requirements.

4. Lead a global team across time zones/Geographics

5. Ensure smooth operations with Canadian Scheme players while managing bank settlement relationships with multiple Canadian banks.


Requirements
  • At least 15 years of experience managing Scheme Relationships and Bank Sponsors, globally
  • Proven ability to define and execute scheme and banking strategies that support global growth, including pricing optimization, volume allocation, product customization negotiations, and support of new MCCs, markets, and innovative payment products.
  • Proven capability to lead and motivate globally distributed teams, foster accountability and development, and adapt leadership style to different cultures, time zones, and stages of organizational growth.
  • Excellent communication skills
