What you'll do

Technical Leadership & Standards

  • Establish and enforce engineering standards, Basis of Design (BoD) frameworks, and QA/QC protocols across all disciplines
  • Own technical review and approval at key project milestones (DD, 30/60/90/IFC) to ensure design integrity and standards compliance
  • Serve as the senior technical authority for cross-discipline coordination, ensuring integrated system performance across mechanical, electrical, and controls functions
  • Drive technical risk identification, mitigation planning, and lessons learned adoption across the portfolio

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead and develop the Engineering team including Senior Electrical Engineer, Senior Mechanical Engineer, Senior Controls Engineer, and BIM/Document Control Coordinator
  • Define role clarity, growth pathways, and expectations for technical excellence across the engineering function
  • Build a culture of rigor, accountability, and continuous improvement within the team
  • Recruit and develop engineering talent as the portfolio scales

Consultant & Vendor Oversight

  • Establish scope requirements, deliverable standards, and performance expectations for external EORs, design consultants, and specialty vendors / consultants
  • Lead technical workshops and design charrettes to align external partners to Riot’s engineering requirements
  • Review and approve key consultant deliverables, submittals, and equipment selections

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Partner closely with the VP of Design Management to ensure engineering inputs and design deliverables are sequenced and integrated effectively
  • Collaborate with Construction leadership on constructability, RFI resolution, and commissioning readiness
  • Support Procurement with technical evaluation of equipment and supply chain strategy including vendor / product evaluation and maintenance of an approved product / vendor list
  • Represent engineering in executive forums, strategic planning, and customer/stakeholder discussions

What you'll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering; advanced degree a plus
  • At least 15+ years of engineering experience in the data center market
  • Demonstrated leadership of multi-discipline engineering teams with direct people management accountability
  • Deep technical fluency across at least one core discipline (mechanical, electrical, or controls) with working knowledge of the others
  • Proven track record of establishing engineering standards and driving consistent technical execution across a capital portfolio
  • Strong executive communication skills; able to represent technical complexity to non-technical stakeholders clearly
  • Experience with consultant oversight, EOR management, and design review governance on large capital programs
  • Ability to travel to sites for critical design, commissioning, and stakeholder events

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive Salary: $310,000-$340,000 (commensurate with experience) + bonus + sign-on equity grant.
  • Long-Term Growth: Eligible to participate in Riot’s equity incentive programs and share in the success you help build.
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan: Incudes a generous company match.
  • Comprehensive Health Coverage: Multiple medical plan options, including 100% company-paid plans.
