Job Description

Technical Business Consultant — Global Trade Compliance

Pre-Sales Solutions Engineering | North America Territory

We are looking for a senior Global Trade Compliance Technical Business Consultant (TBC) who will serve as the domain and solutions expert embedded alongside our Global Trade Compliance Sales Executive. This is a North American pre-sales role — not a post-sale implementation role — requiring someone who can translate complex compliance requirements into compelling product demonstrations, proof-of-concept exercises, and executive-level presentations that win business.

The ideal candidate is a rare combination: a genuine Global Trade Compliance subject matter expert who also possesses the technical depth to configure and showcase GTC software solutions — and the executive presence to deliver those demonstrations credibly to Customs Directors, Chief Compliance Officers, VPs of Trade, and C-suite stakeholders.

You will own the technical dimension of every sales cycle — from discovery and requirements mapping through customized demos, RFP/RFI responses, and technical objection handling — while maintaining the trust and credibility of a true compliance practitioner in the room. You understand FTZ grantees, operators, and users. You speak CBP fluently. You know what keeps an Importer of Record up at night, and you can show — live, on screen — how our solutions solve those problems. You also understand how AI is redefining classification, screening, and document processing, and you can make that case confidently to skeptical enterprise compliance buyers.

Qualifications

  • 6–8+ years of hands-on experience in global trade compliance — either as a practitioner (customs broker, trade compliance analyst, FTZ administrator, import/export manager) or in a technical pre-sales / solutions consulting role for a GTC software vendor.
  • Deep technical proficiency with at least one major GTC platform — such as Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE, Descartes, E2open/Amber Road, SAP GTS, Oracle GTM, QAD GTC, MIC, or CargoWise — with demonstrated ability to configure and demonstrate solutions.
  • Comprehensive domain fluency across: Foreign Trade Zones (FTZ) including grantee, operator, and user structures; Customs & Border Protection (CBP) compliance; Importer of Record (IOR) obligations; HTS/HS product classification; denied party and sanctioned entity screening (OFAC, BIS, ITAR); Free Trade Agreement (FTA) qualification and rules of origin; duty drawback; and export controls (EAR/ITAR).
  • North America territory coverage with knowledge of vertical market dynamics in manufacturing, aerospace & defense, automotive, life sciences, retail/e-commerce, and high-tech.
  • Executive presence and polished communication skills — equally effective presenting live software demos, technical architecture overviews, or business case ROI narratives to audiences ranging from IT and compliance teams to CFOs and COOs.
  • Solid foundation in AI and how it applies to trade compliance — classification automation, denied party screening accuracy, intelligent document processing, duty optimization, and regulatory change monitoring.
  • Collaborative operating style: works in lockstep with the Sales Executive, aligns on account strategy, and knows when to lead the room and when to enable the AE.
  • Comfortable building and delivering custom demo environments tailored to a specific prospect vertical, pain point, or compliance scenario.

Core Competencies

  • Deep global trade compliance domain expertise: FTZ (grantee, operator, user), CBP, IOR, HTS/HS classification, denied party screening, CTPAT, FTA qualification, duty drawback, export controls (EAR/ITAR/OFAC)
  • Technical platform fluency: able to configure, demonstrate, and troubleshoot at least one enterprise GTC solution with confidence
  • Requirements mapping and solution design: translates complex compliance workflows
  • and regulatory requirements into structured product demonstrations and solution architectures
  • Executive presence and polished presentation delivery — credible to technical, compliance, and C-suite audiences simultaneously
  • AI fluency and the ability to articulate AI value to risk-averse compliance buyers in terms of accuracy, auditability, and regulatory defensibility
  • Collaborative sales partnership: operates as a true co-pilot to the Sales Executive — aligned on strategy, clear on role boundaries, and always reinforcing the commercial narrative
  • Curiosity and continuous learning — stays current on CBP regulatory changes, tariff policy shifts, trade agreement developments, and evolving GTC software capabilities
  • Strong written communication: builds compelling technical proposals, RFP responses, and proof-of-concept documentation
  • Experienced with modern sales tech: Gong, Outreach, Vidyard, and AI tools actively used to increase personal productivity
  • Bias to preparation — over-prepares for every prospect interaction, researches the account deeply, and customizes every demo to the specific vertical and pain profile
