We are a Biology Company

Plantible, backed by Astanor Ventures, Lerer Hippeau, Piva Capital, Kellogg’s, and Vectr Ventures, is a vertically integrated biology company that is unlocking the power in plants in service of people & planet. Our mission is to create solutions that empower customers to make sustainable and regenerative choices without compromising on quality. We are beginning with the food industry. Please visit our website to learn more about our mission and continued success: https://www.plantiblefoods.com/

How you will contribute:

We are seeking a User Interface (UI) Design Intern who combines analytical rigor with hands-on curiosity - someone who enjoys translating complex operational data into intuitive, user-friendly interfaces. Based on site at our Ranchito facility, this role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-impact startup environment—working alongside operators and engineers to improve usability, clarity and accessibility across our plant data systems.

This is a paid, part-time summer internship (hourly, non-exempt) lasting approximately 10–12 weeks, from late May/early June through August. Interns are expected to work approximately 20–25 hours per week, with some flexibility based on project needs and academic schedules. Compensation is $20/hour.

What you will be working on:

  • Audit & Discovery: Shadow plant operators to understand how they interact with the current dashboards and workflows in a high-pressure, production environment.
  • UI Redesign: Design high-fidelity mockups for selected dashboards, real-time sensor monitors, or inventory workflows as part of a defined improvement project.
  • Design System Management: Contribute to the development or refinement of a scalable component library (buttons, cards, data visualizations) in collaboration with our engineering team.
  • Prototyping: Create interactive prototypes to test workflows like "Batch Approval" or "Emergency Shutdown" incorporating feedback from operators and engineers to ensure they are foolproof.
  • Accessibility & Environment: Design specifically for the factory floor—considering high-contrast needs, "gloved-hand" touch targets, and low-light conditions.

What you bring to Plantible:

  • The Portfolio: A showcase of clean, functional UI work. We value logic and usability over pure "dribble-style" aesthetics.
  • The Tools: Proficiency in Figma (required), including auto-layout and components.
  • Familiarity with VueJS (NuxtJS) or NextJS for component structures is a plus for collaboration with engineering
  • Analytical Mindset: You can take a messy spreadsheet of data and turn it into a clear, actionable chart.
  • Understanding Use Cases: You care about the person using the software at 4:00 AM in a cold production room.
  • Bonus Points: Basic understanding of HTML/CSS or experience with industrial/B2B software.
