Due to continued growth, we are hiring for a Vice President, Business Development at Michael Allen Company.

Michael Allen Company is a Healthcare management consulting firm located in Darien, CT dedicated to helping clients accelerate growth by improving market and customer insight. The firm has a forty-year track record of helping clients achieve profitable growth, bringing unique analytic capabilities, experienced Consultants, and a customized effort to each engagement.

Areas of specialization include pipeline product planning and growth management, marketing and sales effectiveness, resource allocation, and growth strategy development for global healthcare firms. Job Description

The Vice President, Business Development supports this mission by driving commercial growth through their own portfolio of client accounts and prospects. The role is focused on identifying, developing, and closing new and expanded business opportunities across pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and healthcare organizations, with an emphasis on selling MAC's consulting, analytics, and primary market research solutions to address complex client business challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

Including, but not limited to, the following:

  • New Business Development – Lead proactive business development efforts across assigned accounts and priority prospects, identifying, qualifying, and converting opportunities for consulting, analytics, and primary market research engagements.
  • Account Growth – Develop and execute account plans for key clients, driving expansion through cross-selling, upselling, and identification of emerging client needs.
  • Strategic Selling – Lead consultative sales discussions with senior pharmaceutical and biotechnology stakeholders, aligning MAC capabilities to client business objectives and commercial challenges.
  • Opportunity Ownership – Own the end-to-end sales process from opportunity identification through proposal development, contract negotiation, close and oversee execution through strong collaboration with Consulting team.
  • Client Relationship Development – Build and maintain strong relationships with decision-makers and influencers across commercial, market access, medical affairs, clinical development, insights, analytics, and corporate strategy functions.
  • Commercial Collaboration – Partner with consulting, research, and analytics teams to develop compelling, differentiated solutions that address client needs and support successful proposal conversion.
  • Pipeline Management – Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities, ensuring accurate forecasting and achievement of individual bookings and revenue goals.
  • Market Intelligence – Monitor industry trends, competitive activity, and emerging client priorities to identify new business opportunities and inform client conversations.
  • Industry Presence – Represent MAC at industry conferences, client meetings, and networking events to generate leads and strengthen market visibility.
  • Compliance – Abide by company operating procedures and client policy requirements, including pharmacovigilance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or advanced degree in business, healthcare, life sciences, or a related field preferred.
  • 10+ years of business development, account management, or consultative sales experience within healthcare, life sciences, pharmaceuticals, market research, analytics, or consulting.
  • Demonstrated track record of consistently achieving or exceeding individual revenue targets.
  • Proven success selling complex consulting, market research, analytics, or strategic solutions to pharmaceutical and biotechnology organizations.
  • Experience developing relationships with senior commercial, marketing, medical, market access, clinical, insights, and business strategy stakeholders.
  • Experience managing multiple opportunities simultaneously within a long sales-cycle environment.
  • Deep understanding of the primary market research, analytics, and consulting service landscape in life sciences.
  • Strong strategic and consultative selling skills, with the ability to shape and win complex, multi-service engagements.
  • Executive-level communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to coach and elevate sales talent without formal management authority.
  • Familiarity with drug development, commercialization, and marketing processes in the biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to translate market insight into commercial strategy.
