Job Description

EDC is seeking an innovative visual designer who combines strong interactive and motion design skills with a love for storytelling to help define, execute, and evolve EDC’s reputation and influence across channels. This role is for a designer who not only produces high-quality visuals, but also enjoys bringing brand and campaign stories to life from concept through execution, with the judgment and initiative to shape work along the way.

The ideal candidate is a highly skilled designer who is energized by turning complex ideas into clear, compelling visual narratives. They are comfortable working from a starting point that may be loosely defined and can independently develop, refine, and deliver work that will elevate EDC’s work.

This is a strong opportunity for a forward-thinking, mission-driven designer who wants to grow as a brand communications leader over time. You will play a key part in shaping how EDC shows up across digital channels, campaigns, and thought leadership, helping translate strategy into impactful, cohesive creative work.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The person in this position is expected to communicate clearly and courteously; to develop and maintain positive relationships with clients, consultants, collaborators, co-workers, field sites, and funders; and to work respectfully with EDC colleagues. The job requires adherence to EDC policies & procedures.

The Visual Designer will be part of a highly collaborative communications team and work closely with colleagues across the organization. This role reports to the Director of the Office of Communications.

The Visual Designer will:

  • Guide design from concept to execution across social, web, and digital campaigns, including interactive and motion-based work
  • Translate ideas, briefs, and early concepts into clear visual directions, often working from loosely defined starting points
  • Contribute daily to social media storytelling by developing concepts and producing high-quality visual assets
  • Collaborate on the development of thought leadership campaigns, bringing a strong point of view on how to communicate ideas visually
  • Design and prototype interactive experiences that make complex content engaging and accessible
  • Bring an editorial mindset to visual storytelling, shaping how ideas are structured, sequenced, and delivered across channels
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, navigating feedback and revisions with professionalism and clarity
  • Contribute to the evolution of EDC’s brand and digital presence, including website and cross-channel experiences
  • Build and maintain scalable design systems, templates, and components that support consistency and efficiency
  • Partner with internal teams and external vendors to ensure high-quality, on-brand execution

Qualifications

This position requires educational achievement; excellent writing skills; demonstrable initiative, creativity, and flexibility; ability to work independently and effectively in groups; and strong interpersonal & organizational skills. Specific requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of design and content strategy experience
  • At least 6 years of relevant experience in a creative agency or in-house environment
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating interactive, digital, and motion design work
  • Proven ability to take projects from concept through final execution
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain design decisions and navigate feedback
  • Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and ability to work independently
  • Exceptional organizational and project management skills
  • Ability to work across formats, including social, web, motion, and print
  • A clear point of view on visual storytelling and digital communication
  • Experience designing for campaigns or content series, not just one-off assets
  • Comfort working in collaborative, fast-moving environments with evolving inputs
  • Interest in mission-driven work and using design to advance social impact

Technical skills:

  • Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign required)
  • After Effects and/or Premiere
  • Experience with interactive design tools like Figma
  • Experience with project management tools like Asana

Apply directly via our website (www.edc.org/careers-edc) with both a cover letter and resume and portfolio (URL or uploaded pdf). Design samples and/or participation in exercises to demonstrate skills and experience may be part of the interview process.
