Charity Charge
Financial services built exclusively for nonprofits.
Charity Charge makes a credit card for nonprofits. That's the core of what we do, and it's a bigger deal than it sounds.
Here's the problem. Most nonprofits can't get a business credit card without someone on staff or on the board signing a personal guarantee. So the Executive Director uses her own card and waits to get paid back. The treasurer takes on risk he never signed up for.
When board members leave, the card leaves with them. And someone spends hours every month typing transactions into QuickBooks.
We fixed it. Our Mastercard is purpose-built for Nonprofits, and it's approved based on the organization itself, not any one person. No personal guarantee. No annual fee. Unlimited cards for staff. You can set spending limits in real time. It syncs with QuickBooks. And the organization builds its own credit history, so the next loan or lease gets easier.
More than 3,000 nonprofits use Charity Charge today, from small churches and food banks to United Way, YMCA, and Junior League. We've added bookkeeping, a gift card platform, and state compliance filings, so nonprofits can handle their finances with one partner instead of five.
We started in Austin in 2015. Our founder, Stephen Garten, hosts a podcast where nonprofit leaders talk about what it's actually like to run their organizations.
What it's like to work here: we're a small team in one office in East Austin.
Everyone talks to customers. If a customer brings up a problem on Tuesday, we can often fix it by Friday. You won't wait months to see your work matter. We eat lunch together every day, benefits start on your first day, and when someone's ready for more responsibility, we give it to them.
There are about two million nonprofits in the US and most of them are still running their money on personal credit cards and spreadsheets. We're building the tools to change that. If you want to do work that helps real organizations every single week, we'd like to meet you.
