POSITION SUMMARY


The Academic Advisor supports new and continuing students enrolled in all programs hosted by CACE including the Access Degree Pathway (ADP) and HT Online by providing comprehensive academic and admissions advising throughout their educational journey. Serving as a key liaison between students and the university, the advisor ensures clear communication of academic policies, degree requirements, and support services to promote student success and retention.


TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Academic and Admissions Advising

 

  • Provide academic advising to students regarding admissions, program requirements, and degree completion.
  • Conduct transcript pre-evaluations and assist in the development of personalized degree plans.
  • Offer guidance on standardized testing (e.g., CLEP) and other credit-earning options.
  • Explain the assessment of prior learning process and assist with registration for applicable programs.
  • Administer and proctor exams as needed.
  • Student Support and Liaison Services
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for students regarding admissions, academic policies, and progress.
  • Coordinate student orientation, ensuring awareness of ADP and institutional policies.
  • Support new cohorts by assisting with class representative selection and orientation.

 

Enrollment and Academic Monitoring

 

  • Monitor attendance, academic standing, and enrollment status to ensure compliance with ADP policies.
  • Advise students on academic probation, suspension, directed studies, program extensions, concurrent enrollment, and prerequisites.
  • Conduct classroom visits and report findings to the Director of Student Services and Director of CACE.
  • Course Planning and Scheduling
  • Assist with academic calendar preparation to ensure appropriate course offerings and student placement.
  • Coordinate dissemination of elective and supplemental course options.
  • Manage cohort sizes and learning team composition for optimal program delivery.

 

Retention and Student Status Management

 

  • Lead re-entry and retention efforts by generating reports, communicating with students, and facilitating advising for returning learners.
  • Process student status changes, including withdrawals, re-entries, and personal information updates.
  • Address student complaints, group dynamics issues, and grievance processes in collaboration with program leadership.

 

Additional Responsibilities

 

  • May audit graduation eligibility and coordinate commencement activities for adult learners.
  • Participate in university events and other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology, education, business, or a related field.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in academic advising, student services, or a related role.

 

Preferred

 

  • Master’s degree in a relevant discipline; experience working in higher education or adult learning programs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with student information systems.
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends to accommodate adult learners.

SUPERVISION


  • This position reports to the Director of Center for Adult and Continuing Education.

SALARY RANGE


  • $42,000 annually plus benefits!

POSITION STATUS

 

  • Temporary, Full-time, in-person.
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate travel within a 50-mile radius of Austin, Texas.
  • Access to reliable transportation and technology for conducting remote observations and communications.

Founded in 1875, Huston-Tillotson University is Austin's first institution of higher education.
