At E Source, we help utilities make sense of complexity in a rapidly changing landscape, and we’re looking for an Associate Consultant to help shape how that impact shows up in the world.

E Source is a research, data/analytics, and technology focused professional services firm focused exclusively on the utility industry in the US and Canada. We help utilities target and serve their customers more effectively, enhance and optimize their grid, and leverage operating best practices and technologies to manage their business more effectively. Headquartered in Texas, we have 450+ employees across the US and Canada. Learn more at www.esource.com

As an Associate Consultant, you’ll support applied research and evaluation projects that help utility clients better serve their customers. You’ll build foundational consulting skills while collecting, organizing, and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data and contributing to clear, client-ready deliverables.

You’ll work on collaborative project teams deploying a range of research methods. With structured guidance and coaching from project managers, experienced consultants, and subject matter experts, you’ll execute assigned tasks, respond to feedback, and rapidly grow your research skills, critical thinking, problem-solving capabilities, and energy industry knowledge.

In this role, you will:

  • Contribute to the development of interview guides, survey instruments, focus group materials, and other data collection tools

  • Conduct in-depth interviews with program staff after shadowing more experienced team members and support other primary data collection activities as assigned

  • Analyze information from interviews, focus groups, surveys, secondary data sources, and other social science research methods with significant guidance

  • Use basic statistical concepts and analytical tools to organize, clean, review, and summarize data with support

  • Document methods, assumptions, analytical decisions, and work steps clearly so outputs are transparent and ready for review

  • Conduct quality control on your own work and incorporate reviewer feedback

  • Develop basic data visualizations, graphics, tables, and analytical outputs for client deliverables

  • Work closely with more experienced staff to interpret results and contribute to reports, presentations, memos, and other client-facing deliverables

  • Maintain awareness of priorities and deadlines, manage assigned tasks, and proactively communicate status, questions, and issues to project managers

  • Collaborate with consultants, project managers, subject matter experts, engineers, data scientists, and other team members to support successful project delivery

You’re likely a great fit if you:

  • Have exposure to social science research or applied research methods through academic coursework, internships, or early professional experience

  • Bring basic qualitative and quantitative data analysis experience and familiarity with basic statistical concepts

  • Are familiar with Excel and analytical software such as Stata, SPSS, R, Python, or similar tools

  • Think critically, demonstrate curiosity, and seek to understand how assigned work fits within the broader project context

  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally, listen attentively, and respond constructively to feedback

  • Take accountability for assigned work, follow established processes, and ask questions when guidance is needed

  • Stay organized, maintain awareness of priorities and deadlines, and communicate proactively when issues arise

And even better if you:

  • Have contributed to primary data collection activities such as interviews, focus groups, or surveys

  • Have created basic data visualizations or written summaries of research findings

  • Have experience organizing, formatting, aggregating, or cleaning data for analysis

  • Have used Microsoft Office tools, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, in academic or professional settings

  • Have exposure to the utility or energy industry, including energy efficiency, load flexibility, electrification, or distributed energy resource programs

Experience and Skills to Qualify Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree with up to two years of relevant experience in applied research, program evaluation, social science, or a related field; qualifying exposure may also come through coursework, internships, research assistantships, or early professional experience

At E Source, you’ll work alongside people who are thoughtful, curious, and deeply knowledgeable about utility and energy systems. We value clarity over jargon, substance over flash, and collaboration over ego. You’ll have the opportunity to grow your skills, contribute to meaningful work, and help shape a company that plays a real role in how the energy future unfolds.

What you can expect

  • Excellent insurance options, including medical, dental, and vision plans; company-paid life insurance; company-paid long- and short-term disability insurance; medical and dependent-care flexible spending plans, and paid parental leave.

  • A flexible time off (FTO) policy that provides paid time away from work, approved by your manager, while ensuring business needs, workload commitments, and appropriate coverage are maintained.

  • A 401(k) plan with a 3% employer match.

The budgeted salary for this position is $61,000–$82,000 USD + annual bonus. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.

This role will be remote, with minimal travel (1–4 times a year).

Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the US or Canada. We’re unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of employment visas or Labour Market Impact Assessments (Cdn) at this time.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or status as a protected veteran.
