Associate Design Director, Employer Experience

Job Description

Organization Overview:

Eli Lilly is a global healthcare leader that unites caring with discovery to create medicines that make life better for people around the world. We’re leveraging cutting-edge technologies and innovative platforms to develop next-generation therapeutic ecosystems, connected devices, data, and analytics to transform patient experiences and improve treatment outcomes.

About the Organization

This role is part of the Commercial Design Team within Eli Lilly’s Digital Office. Our team is an engine of innovation, where design, technology, and strategy meet to pioneer the future of human-centered healthcare solutions. We leverage the power of human-centered design while adhering to lean/agile principles to deliver solutions that inspire trust and create continuous value through ongoing innovation and refinement, spanning Lilly.com, brand websites, consumer applications, and new platforms for employers.

Lilly Employer is one of the newest areas we support. Employers want to help their people get access to medicines for obesity and cardiometabolic health, but many lack the data, tools, and trusted guidance to cover these treatments with confidence and see a return on that investment. We’re building a platform that lets an employer of any size find us, choose how to cover these medicines, launch a program, and see results on its own, while giving their employees a simple, transparent path to care that they would choose for themselves.

What You’ll Be Doing:

As an Associate Design Director on the Commercial Design Team, you’ll lead design for the Lilly Employer platform. It’s a two-sided experience: the employer’s journey, from comparing coverage options and building a program to implementation, reporting, and renewal, and the employee’s journey, from enrolling to seeing a clinician, filling a prescription, and staying on track with coaching.

You’ll be a senior craft leader and a builder of teams. You’ll set the design vision and quality bar for the platform, design flagship experiences hands-on, and grow a team of designers as the product matures. Your work will span buying tools for benefit leaders, data and reporting experiences, enrollment and care journeys, and the marketing that brings employers and their people to the platform. You’ll partner closely with design, engineering, product, and business stakeholders to bring concepts to life, ensuring every design choice strengthens the Lilly digital experience, earns the trust of a demanding business audience, and shows employers value they can see working.

How You’ll Succeed:

·       Deliver excellence: Set and uphold a high bar for design craft, strategic thinking, and execution across all initiatives.

·       Inspire and grow talent: Mentor and empower a team of designers to expand their skills, confidence, and creative impact.

·       Drive innovation: Champion experimentation and bold thinking to shape forward-looking experiences that redefine what’s possible at Lilly.

What You Should Bring:

·       Oversee a diverse network of internal and external design collaborators to envision transformative experiences that deliver real value to people living with a variety of medical conditions.

·       Collaborate with key stakeholders to turn complex and ambiguous problems into actionable design prompts and articulate possible solutions through narrative crafting and interactive proof-of-concepts.

·       Cultivate and grow relationships with partner functions to foster a shared sense of user-centricity and demonstrate how design empowers the creation of better experiences and products.

·       Leverage considerable and demonstrable design expertise to offer mentorship, guidance and objective critique to elevate and uphold the design quality bar across products and prototypes.

·       Contribute design work directly, when appropriate, to ensure storytelling, prototype and interface artifacts are held to the highest standard of quality.

·       Articulate design decisions and rationale effectively and persuasively to a wide range of non-technical and executive-level stakeholders to ensure alignment across programs.

·    Understand when to proceed and when to pivot ideas, based on rapidly evolving circumstances and emerging insights from users or internal subject-matter experts.

Basic Qualifications:

8–10+ years of design experience.

3+ years leading designers or setting design direction for a product or portfolio in complex environments.

High school diploma/GED with 10+ years of experience in design and/or design research.

Qualified applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Lilly will not provide support for or sponsor work authorization or visas for this role, including but not limited to

BA/BS in Human Computer Interaction, design, or a closely related field

Deep expertise and practice in the discipline of design with a strong track record of delivering digital experiences in native and web applications while balancing integration and iteration against key measurable priorities, results, and business impact.

Ability to create and maintain long-lasting and highly-collaborative relationships with cross-functional team leaders and external partners across the enterprise.

Exemplary verbal and written communication skills, possessing the ability to make complex ideas simple and consumable for a broad range of collaborators.

A collaborative and optimistic spirit to navigate difficult challenges without losing the joy, empathy, curiosity and sense of fun that makes design careers so rewarding.

History leading design teams in healthcare, pharmaceuticals or other highly-regulated industries.

Experience hiring, building, and growing design teams.

Understanding of contemporary development processes and familiarity with the possibilities and deployment of modern front-end libraries and frameworks.
