The Core Platform team is building the industry-leading next-generation AI-powered cloud platforms, services and tools that underpin our products. We build and maintain systems at scale and ensure that Yahoo is always able to serve its hundreds of millions of users and billions of daily pageviews. Using a combination of open source software and internal tools across multiple cloud providers, we engineer automated solutions for orchestration, identity, and deployment. We promote developer self-sufficiency and an AI-augmented DevOps ownership model.

A Lot About You 

You are an experienced Cloud Developer with a focus on velocity, developer productivity, and product quality. You have a strong commitment to writing clean, maintainable code and building robust automated tests. You are a systematic troubleshooter who leverages modern AI tools to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure issues. You are self-driven, curious about underlying systems, and focus on relentlessly automating operations at scale. As a career-level professional, you work independently and serve as a technical resource for your colleagues.

You Will 

  • Develop and enhance Terraform modules to standardize cloud features across Yahoo’s global infrastructure.

  • Configure and automate Helm deployments for services hosted in Kubernetes.

  • Design and deploy AI-driven troubleshooting systems and cost optimization features that use machine learning to proactively manage cluster health.

  • Build and maintain intelligent onboarding agents (LLM-based) that guide developers through seamless cloud application configuration and deployment.

  • Implement AI-augmented development workflows, utilizing tools like GitHub Copilot or Cursor to accelerate code generation, refactoring, and documentation.

  • Identify and implement AI-driven efficiencies to replace manual or repetitive infrastructure management tasks with autonomous workflows.

  • Diagnose, resolve, and prevent production issues using a combination of Kubernetes expertise and AI-powered diagnostic tools.

  • Implement and maintain observability stacks (Prometheus, Grafana) to provide high-fidelity data for predictive AI models.

  • Write clear, concise engineering documentation and mentor junior engineers on cloud best practices and AI-assisted coding standards.

Qualifications 

  • 3+ years of professional experience with a BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent.

  • Experience working with AWS or GCP public cloud environments.

  • Strong knowledge of cloud fundamentals including automation workflows, application deployments, monitoring, networking, and IAM.

  • Strong proficiency with Kubernetes (cluster management, operators, CRDs, Helm, GitOps).

  • Experience with prompt engineering or structured interaction with LLMs to accelerate development tasks.

  • Ability to evaluate, refine, and validate AI-generated code and infrastructure templates for security and performance.

  • Knowledge of observability tooling (OpenTelemetry, etc.) for collecting and structuring data for AI/ML model consumption.

  • Skilled in identifying performance bottlenecks and determining root causes in distributed cloud systems.

  • Knowledge of Service mesh technologies (e.g., Istio) and IP networking (DNS, Load Balancing) is preferred.

  • Programming experience in Go and experience with Terraform is preferred.

The compensation for this position ranges from $111,000.00 - $231,250.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
