About Base

Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.

About the Role

You will design, build, and operate the core data infrastructure. In this role, you’ll own critical data pipelines and datasets that support product development, grid operations, analytics, and business reporting.

You’ll work closely with engineers, operators, business teams, and analytics to understand data needs and turn them into scalable, reliable systems. This is a hands-on role with real ownership, your work will shape our data architecture as we grow and ensure it can scale with the company.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, build, and maintain reliable data pipelines that ingest data from product, operational, and third-party systems into our data platform

  • Develop and own core data models and canonical datasets used across the company for analytics, reporting, and decision-making

  • Build and operate batch and streaming data workflows with a focus on correctness, performance, and scalability

  • Partner closely with EPD, operations, manufacturing, and business teams to understand data requirements and deliver practical solutions

  • Improve data quality, observability, and documentation so teams can confidently use data without deep context

  • Help define and evolve our data architecture, tooling, and best practices as the company scales

What You'll Bring

  • Deep experience in data engineering, or backend engineering with a strong data focus

  • Are comfortable building and maintaining production data pipelines using Go, Python, SQL, and modern data orchestration frameworks.

  • Have experience working with data warehouses and/or data lakes (e.g., BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, Databricks, or similar)

  • Have worked with distributed data processing or streaming systems (e.g., Spark, Kafka, Flink, or equivalents)

  • Care deeply about data quality, schema design, and building datasets that others can trust and understand

  • Enjoy working in fast-moving environments with evolving requirements and ambiguous problems

  • Take pride in building simple, reliable systems that solve real problems

  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., AWS/GCP, Terraform)

Our Values
  • First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.

  • Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.

  • Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.

  • Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.

  • Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.

  • Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.

  • Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.

Do the best work of your life at Base.
