About the Role

Emerald Cloud Laboratory (ECL) is seeking an experienced, hands-on HR Generalist to support employees and managers in a fast-paced startup environment.

Reporting to the Head of HR, you’ll manage day-to-day HR operations, including employee relations, manager support, benefits, leaves, onboarding, offboarding, compliance, and employee documentation. The ideal candidate is approachable, organized, responsive, and comfortable handling sensitive matters with sound judgment and confidentiality.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as a trusted HR resource for employees and managers.
  • Manage employee relations concerns, workplace investigations, and conflict resolution.
  • Coach managers on performance, documentation, corrective action, and terminations.
  • Coordinate onboarding, offboarding, and employee changes.
  • Maintain accurate HRIS data and confidential employee records.
  • Support benefits, open enrollment, leaves, and workplace accommodations.
  • Partner with payroll to ensure employee information is accurate and timely.
  • Interpret and consistently apply employment laws and company policies.
  • Support performance reviews, employee engagement, reporting, and HR projects.
  • Identify risks and escalate significant concerns to the Head of HR.

What You’ll Bring

  • Five or more years of progressive HR experience, preferably in an HR Generalist role.
  • Strong employee relations, investigation, and manager-coaching experience.
  • Experience with benefits, leaves, onboarding, offboarding, HRIS administration, and payroll support.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws.
  • Strong communication, organization, judgment, and confidentiality.
  • Experience in a startup, biotechnology, scientific, or technical environment is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or a related field is preferred.
  • Ability to work in the Austin office one day per week.
