HW Solutions Competency Center (HWS-CC) is a central team within NXP’s Global Operations Engineering (GOE) organization responsible for design, manufacturing, compliance and supply chain operations of hardware boards.  The team provides hardware solutions to all business units within NXP through its global presence in North America, EU and Asia. Board types include end-customer, Silicon validation, system solutions, Failure Analyses, and reliability application.

The HWS-CC Senior HW Design Engineer is responsible for end-to-end hardware design, from translating requirements into functional architectures through detailed design and HW debugging. Works in cross functional teams with other HW designers, Project managers, manufacturing engineers, customer support engineers or product validation engineers to ensure high quality HW performing according to specifications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Define and develop functional hardware architectures based on system and product requirements
  • Engage with stakeholders / requestors to clarify HW requirements and translate them into optimized hardware design solutions
  • Perform schematic design and capture, ensuring high-quality, manufacturable designs
  • Drive PCB placement and layout guidance, working closely with layout engineers to meet performance, signal integrity, and cost targets
  • Select and manage Bill of Materials (BoM), balancing performance, availability, and cost considerations
  • Conduct hardware simulations (e.g., signal integrity, power integrity, EM) to ensure robust system performance
  • Support design bring-up, and troubleshooting of hardware prototypes
  • Provide design expertise to application teams, and external customers as needed
  • Contribute in improving HW Design competency by sharing best practices, lessons learned and industry board design technologies

Key Competencies:

  • Ability to understand system-level requirements and translate them into robust hardware architectures
  • Full ownership and leadership in HW design, both at the board and system level
  • Strong capability to diagnose issues and optimize designs using simulations and data-driven approaches
  • High level of accuracy in schematic design, component selection, and documentation
  • Planning, organizing, decision-making & communication skills. Ability to prioritize and execute tasks and projects in a high-pressure environment
  • Implement designs that are competitive with industry standards, high quality, cost effective, and delivered on time.
  • Skilled in engaging with requestors and stakeholders to align expectations and clarify requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Education: BS or MS in Electrical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years board design and development
  • Strong expertise in schematic capture tools and PCB design flow (preferably in Cadence)
  • Familiarity with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for test (DFT)
  • Strong inter-personal and written & oral communication skills
