KXAN (NBC) in Austin is hiring an experienced investigative multimedia journalist to join “KXAN Investigates,” a nationally-recognized, award-winning team of journalists – the largest of any TV station in Texas.  Through tip-driven and enterprise investigations, KXAN has helped change laws, recovered millions of dollars for viewers, revealed major safety shortfalls and exposed corruption among elected leaders.  KXAN’s overall station brand is “in-depth, investigative,” with proven success producing high-impact, high-quality, innovative projects on-air and online.

DESCRIPTION: This MMJ will work on both short and longer-term investigations, pursue follow-up reports, break investigative angles when a major news story arises, and work specific investigative beats. The team also consistently tackles incoming tips, uncover problems, hold those responsible accountable and press for results.

 

EXPERIENCE: Candidates should have a minimum of five years reporting experience, including at least two years of investigative reporting. This is not an entry-level position. A bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field is preferred.

 

REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have a resume and online link showing investigative work. Candidates should know the basics of data analysis, public information requests, backgrounding, interviewing subjects/sources, digital storytelling and shooting/editing video. They should also be open to collaboration with an entire team of seasoned investigators, and they must have a track record of producing accurate, complete and compelling reports on deadline.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Excellent reading, writing, spelling, grammar and organizational skills. Promotes teamwork and maintains attitude of cooperation with all station personnel. Proficient at digital video editing. Adept at ad-lib presentations, without aid of scripts and/or teleprompters. Possesses exceptional research skills.
