The Lead SMR Mechanical Systems Engineer demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives. This is a technical position that integrates and develops processes that meet business needs across the organization and requires long-term planning. This role contributes to the overall strategy of the business and manages complex issues within the Systems Engineering area.
Essential Responsibilities
- Responsible for Mechanical Nuclear Island Support Systems (MNISS) engineering activities that support the BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) design.
- Activities focus on the following: 1. Determination of radioactive material content in various gaseous, liquid process and effluent streams. 2. Measurement, indication, and recording of gamma radiation levels at strategic locations throughout the plant. 3. Monitoring of multiple parameters inside containment. 4. Collection of representative liquid and gaseous samples for analysis.
- Responsible for development of facility drawings and component specifications.
- Plan / develop technical and management processes to improve both team and customer productivity
- Provide support to the Licensing organization for regulatory related deliverables.
- Responsible for analysis and design work supporting requirements specifications
- Interface with cross-functional teams and departments to complete these tasks
- Improve areas of project execution and department management through Six Sigma methodology
- Support development efforts for both new products and new technology
- Responsible to undertake the necessary corrective and preventive actions resulting from Quality non-compliance monitoring and audit programs
- Responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives, such as Lean Action Work Outs (LAWO).
- A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be required to lead design activities. Develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Explains technical information to others.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering from an accredited university or college
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in an Engineering role
Desired Qualifications
- Master’s degree or PhD in an engineering or technical discipline
- SRO license qualifications
- Strong Leadership skills
- Knowledge of working within a regulated environment (nuclear). Knowledge of quality standards and systems (e.g., NQA-1 and ISO 9000). Strong organization skills and problem-solving abilities
- Prior experience in system delivery of complex analyses
- Strong customer mindset
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and cope under pressure
- Six Sigma training is preferred
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $85,600.00 and $164,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
