This role will be based in our Austin office, on a in-office basis with an option to work remotely one day a week.
Position Summary
Greenberg Traurig’s Government Law & Policy team is seeking a highly organized and results focused Legislative Assistant to support a dynamic government affairs practice. This role serves as a critical operational and coordination partner to a team of attorneys and lobbyists, helping manage scheduling, communications, reporting, legislative tracking, and daily workflow processes.
The ideal candidate exercises sound judgment, communicates clearly, and manages competing priorities with professionalism. Success in this role requires initiative, accountability, responsiveness, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
This position requires flexibility and a willingness to work extended hours during the Texas Legislative Session and other peak periods when team support is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Manages daily operational and administrative support for the Government Law & Policy team
Coordinates meetings, events, and stakeholder engagements, including scheduling, logistics, materials, and follow-up
Tracks legislation throughout the legislative process, including bill referrals, hearings, committee actions, amendments, floor activity, deadlines, and final disposition using legislative tracking platforms, including Telicon and Texas Legislature Online (TLO)
Monitors and circulates newly filed legislation, committee notices, hearing information, and legislative updates throughout the legislative session
Prepares concise, accurate, and timely summaries of committee proceedings, agency activity, floor debate, and legislative developments for internal and client distribution
Qualifications

Education and Prior Experience
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience is preferred
Prior legislative, government affairs, political, or public policy experience is strongly preferred
Experience with legislative tracking platforms is preferred
Technology
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, and Excel
Experience supporting professionals, executives, or client-facing teams in a dynamic work environment is preferred
Demonstrates a basic understanding of artificial intelligence (AI), including core capabilities, limitations, and importance of data privacy, accuracy, verification, and ethical considerations within a professional services environment
Familiarity with or willingness to learn AI platforms (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, or similar tools) and incorporate them responsibly into day-to-day workflows to enhance daily work tasks as appropriate and/or directed
Proactive approach to learning and adapting to emerging AI and related technologies and contributes to a culture of innovation
