Patent Licensing Manager
Location: Plano, Texas.
Hybrid work schedule.
Ericsson Inc. does not sponsor US work authorizations for this job position including H-1B, O-1, and TN. Ericsson also does not hire F-1's working on EAD for this position.
Why should you do this?
Because you'll bring force and finesse to one of the telecom industry's most strategic functions. As Patent Licensing Manager reporting to the Chief Licensing Officer, you'll own the intake, analysis, and resolution of third-party patent assertions against Ericsson - driving decisions that protect our technology, preserve customer relationships, and unlock commercial value from our IP. You'll work across Legal, IPR Licensing, Product, Finance, Sales and regional teams to shape strategy and deliver results.
What you'll do
Own licensing demand intake and triage: log, prioritize and coordinate responses to incoming assertions; marshal cross-functional resources and timelines.
Lead patent claim analysis: direct technical and legal review, manage claim charts, map patents to Ericsson products, and validate essentiality and technical scope with engineers and outside counsel.
Quantify business and legal risk: assess exposure across markets and products, evaluate defenses (non-infringement, invalidity, exhaustion, FRAND considerations) and recommend pragmatic strategies.
Drive cross-functional case management: coordinate IPR Licensing, Litigation, Product/Tech, Finance, Sales and Regional Legal to align positions, evidence and approvals.
Scout and monetize patent assets: identify high-potential portfolio families, build pipelines, map use cases, and collaborate with Product and Sales to surface commercialization paths.
Design deals and valuation: develop evidence-backed valuation views and creative deal structures (portfolio licenses, cross-licenses, field-of-use, running royalties, lump sums).
Provide governance and alignment: keep IPR Licensing leadership and stakeholders informed and aligned on strategy and outcomes.
What you'll bring
Several years of hands-on experience in patent licensing, litigation, or IPR strategy in telecom, networking, semiconductors, or software - including experience with NPE and corporate licensing demands.
Strong technical comfort with patent claims and specs and the ability to partner with engineers on architecture, standards and claim mapping.
Deep legal/commercial acumen: infringement/invalidity analysis, portfolio valuation, SEP/FRAND frameworks and global licensing practices.
Demonstrated negotiation leadership on complex licensing matters.
Clear, concise writing and executive-level briefing skills.
Experience with SEP licensing in cellular standards (3GPP, ETSI) and FRAND dispute resolution.
Familiarity with telecom equipment, network software, device ecosystems, supply-chain licensing and indemnities.
International experience and exposure to arbitration/mediation a plus.
JD with substantial IPR/licensing experience is a must. Patent bar or national patent qualification a plus.
Strategic thinker who moves from analysis to action.
Why this role matters
You'll be at the intersection of law, technology and commercial strategy - protecting Ericsson's products and customers while unlocking revenue and strategic advantage from our IP. This is a high-impact role with visibility to senior leadership and the opportunity to influence global licensing posture.
