Job Description

 Roles and Responsibilities

  • Manage operational logistics for a payroll tax function supporting 23,000+ employees across 30 company entities.
  • Stabilize operations in a high-demand environment through decision making, risk-based prioritization, and streamlined execution.
  • Oversee the implementation of employment tax compliance activities within People Operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local employment tax regulations through development and monitoring of audit controls in the payroll platform and will integrations.
  • Manage and resolve employee inquiries with a high value on world class customer service.
  • Manage and resolve inquiries from taxing authorities with a focus on timeliness and risk prioritization.
  • Partner with internal tax, payroll, and compliance stakeholders to support employment tax audits and settlements, including preparation and timely decision-making in relation to audit discussions.
  • Develop and implement best practices for the execution of employment tax compliance activities across the region.
  • Provide operational guidance and support to payroll vendor teams, including training on appropriate pay input parameters.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Legal, HR, and other internal functions to ensure employment tax compliance is fully integrated into People Operations processes and initiatives.
  • Design, implement, and track key metrics to monitor operational health and risk, proactively addressing leadership needs and providing visibility into compliance performance.
  • Identify and drive continuous process improvements using LEAN methodology and other efficiency frameworks
  • Maintain high standards of accuracy, timeliness, and quality to ensure compliance with all relevant legal and tax policy requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 3-5+ years of experience in employment tax compliance Canada and USA

  • Significant prior professional work experience with demonstrated understanding employment tax processes, regulatory compliance and/or Operations/Service-oriented environment

  • Fluent in English knowledge both verbal and written

  • Strong knowledge of employment tax regulations

Desired Characteristics

  • Payroll Certification

  • Experience working United States and Canada employment tax.

  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt to changing business requirements and regulatory environments

  • Capability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing across all levels within the organization

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications: Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Proficiency in HR systems (ex. Workday) and technologies

For candidates applying to a Canadian-based position, the pay range for this position is between $55,000 and $105,000 CAD. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. 

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus
