Job Description:

Perkins Coie understands that your career is about choices, not trade-offs. Named one of the country's "100 Best Places to Work For" by Fortune for two decades, Perkins Coie's Patent Agent Program allows you to use your technical background to springboard into the legal world.

Perkins Coie is seeking technical advisors to join its growing Patent Prosecution practice. Candidates are required to have a degree in mechanical engineering, physics, computer science, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, and/or similar degrees, as well as strong academic credentials and excellent references. We are seeking candidates who are interested in becoming patent agents and available to work full-time beginning in June of 2026 when our program begins.

From day one, patent agents are introduced to cutting-edge technology and begin the development of their legal skills. More specifically, patent agents are tasked with working side-by-side with attorneys and other legal personnel to draft and prosecute patent applications before the United State Patent and Trademark Office.

Our firm culture encourages you to define and pursue your definition of success while providing support and mentorship during the process. We offer not only professional development and career training programs but also a personalized mentoring program in which a more senior attorney takes an active role in helping you achieve the highest level of success and become an important member of the Perkins Coie team. Additionally, many patent agents choose to proceed to law school and have the option to continue employment while in school.

With more than 1,000 lawyers in 19 offices across the United States, Europe and Asia, Perkins Coie LLP represents great companies across a wide range of industries and stages of growth—from startups to FORTUNE 50 corporations.

To apply, please access the link and attach your cover letter, resume, graduate/undergraduate transcripts, and a technical writing sample. Principals only.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, 401(k) plan, medical, dental, and vision insurance, personal medical and parental leave, up to ten paid Holidays, and family care benefits. More information regarding benefits and programs may be found here

Compensation: $140,000 annually. Compensation depends on qualifications and experience.

Qualified applicants with arrest or conviction records who reside in Los Angeles County, San Diego County, or San Francisco County will be considered for employment in accordance with the applicable Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act.
