Job Description SummaryConsulting Service, a part of GE Vernova, has offices in multiple countries and offers our global clients (external & internal GEV) a wide range of solutions across the entire spectrum of power generation, delivery, and utilization. Consulting Services at GE Vernova is a team that has comprehensive, global experience in power system studies and in-depth experience analyzing shunt and series compensation, SVCs, FACTS, HVDC, synchronous condensers, and power plant and transmission system dynamic controls. Our global team has more than 500 person-years of professional experience with leading power system analysis software tools like Positive Sequence Load Flow (PSLF*) software and Multi-Area Production Simulation (MAPS*) software, as well as Siemens PSS**/E, DigSILENT PowerFactory, Aspen, ETAP**, PSCAD, EMTP, other commercial applications, and many specialized in-house tools. Our team also has deep experience with voltage control and reactive planning issues as well as the tools and procedures that are most effective in studying them. We perform detailed steady state, voltage and transient stability studies of regional transmission systems, generation interconnections, and renewable generation impacts, as well as specialized studies of sub-synchronous resonance and torsional interaction.

Job Description

Roles Summary/Purpose

As a member of the Consulting Services Grid Integration and Stability, the successful candidate will be an active contributor to the GE Vernova business initiatives related to power systems, power generation equipment, power electronics equipment and services, and data center applications.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform technical analysis related to power electronic and power systems control of renewable generation, battery energy storage systems, large industrial drives, FACTS, and data center applications
  • Support customers with power systems engineering expertise; including modeling, analysis, equipment design and specification, control development, and failure mode analysis
  • Create, modify and parametrize simulation models representing GEV products like wind turbines, solar inverters, battery storage, and thermal units
  • Evaluate grid code compliance and impact of renewable projects in bulk power systems
  • Support continuous development of transmission and distribution products associated to inverter- based resources (Wind, solar and storage) and thermal units including those for data center application for evolving codes and standards through participation in industry standards groups and leading innovative approaches to power system analysis
  • Perform power system transient studies, and detailed equipment modeling using appropriate software tools
  • Effectively communicate results to both internal and external customers by preparing detailed written reports or presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, and customer value propositions
  • Enhance industry knowledge and present technical content in regional forums and conferences; serve as a thought leader in industry activities
  • Actively participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are prized

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in electrical engineering or electric power engineering
  • Minimum 2 years of Industry experience performing transient analysis using simulation tools like ATP/EMTP, PSCAD/EMTDC and EMTP-RV and/Or steady state and dynamic analysis using large data base simulation tools like PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSLF
  • Minimum 1 year of Experience with the use and application of common programming languages (e.g. Python, FORTRAN, C, C++ MATLAB)

Desired Characteristics

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g. ability to effectively communicate with all levels of GE and customer/plant staff)
  • Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering, electric power engineering, or related field of study
  • Industry reputation, prior IEEE/CIGRE published articles related to practical power systems engineering topics, participation in industry standards working groups
  • Experience creating and modifying dynamic user models in simulation tools like PSS/E, PowerFactory and PSLF
  • Advanced experience in electromagnetic transient simulation tools like ATP/EMTP, PSCAD/EMTDC and EMTP-RV
  • Advanced experience with dynamic and time-domain simulation tools (e.g. FORTRAN programming of user-written “black box” models in PSCAD, use of MATLAB or Python scripting to automate execution and analysis of multiple simulations)
  • Demonstrated application of complex mathematics and engineering to real-world electric power system problems

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $88,600.00 and $147,600.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
