The QA Automation Engineer will support the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) on application quality assurance and automated testing initiatives. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and executing automated test scripts across complex, large-scale programming projects. The QA Automation Engineer will work closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders throughout the software development life cycle to ensure application quality and reliability. The candidate will prepare detailed analyses, test plans, and verification procedures for existing and proposed applications. This is a hybrid engagement based in Austin, Texas, requiring candidates who already reside within 50 miles of the primary work location.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop automated test scripts that execute testing functions systematically across applications.
  • Determine test scenario priorities and create execution plans to implement those scenarios effectively.
  • Write, coordinate, and maintain complex test plans, test cases, and test data for assigned projects.
  • Prepare and configure test environments in support of functional, application, and regression testing activities.
  • Perform moderately complex functional, application, and regression testing in coordination with project stakeholders.
  • Analyze proposed applications for software regression suites and evaluate software for operating efficiency improvements.
  • Interpret requirement documents and update test documentation to reflect changes or new requirements.
  • Prepare detailed analyses, plans, diagrams, and verification procedures for existing and proposed applications.
  • Collaborate with customer stakeholders during test cycles and maintain strong working relationships with technical and non-technical teams.
  • Produce management reporting in support of analysis, planning, and project tracking functions.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 8 years of experience designing automated tests by creating scripts that run testing functions automatically.
  • 8 years of experience prioritizing test scenarios and creating execution plans to implement those scenarios.
  • 8 years of experience creating test plans, test cases, and preparing test environments.
  • 8 years of experience performing moderately complex functional, application, and regression testing.
  • 8 years of knowledge of the software development life cycle and software development methodologies.
  • 8 years of demonstrated ability to interpret requirement documents and update test documentation accordingly.
  • 8 years of experience with analysis, planning, and management reporting functions.
  • 8 years of experience acquiring and applying knowledge of the customer's business in an assigned area.
  • 8 years of demonstrated teamwork and interpersonal skills in a professional setting.
  • 8 years of experience working directly with customers during test cycles.
  • 8 years of demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills.
  • 8 years of proven ability to work with technical and non-technical groups while managing multiple responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience with the Texas DIR Project Delivery Framework and associated document templates.
  • 2 years of familiarity with information architecture and information management methodologies.
  • 2 years of familiarity with existing and planned software technology, including global, regional, and local software architecture and infrastructure components.

Additional Requirements:

  • Candidates must already reside in Texas within a 50-mile radius of Austin; candidates currently out of state and planning to relocate will not be considered.
  • Interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams.
  • Overtime beyond 40 hours per week must be coordinated and pre-approved by HHSC.
  • Pre-approved travel, if any, must comply with State of Texas travel rules and rates applicable to classified employees, including submission of original receipts.

Work Location and Schedule:

Location: 701 W 51st Street, Austin, Texas 78751

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding Texas state holidays; weekend, evening, and holiday work may be required as requested.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid — 2 days onsite (Monday and Tuesday required) and 3 days remote; subject to change per the hiring team.
