The QA Engineer Automated will support the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) on the DIR Staff Augmentation engagement. This role is responsible for designing and executing automated test scripts that validate database application functionality, performance, and data integrity. The engineer will develop and maintain automated testing frameworks while collaborating with development and database administration teams to identify, document, and resolve defects. The position requires strong analytical and communication skills to gather testing requirements from stakeholders and translate them into comprehensive test plans and execution strategies. The engineer will also monitor database performance and provide optimization recommendations throughout the testing lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Design and execute automated test scripts and functions targeting database applications.
  • Develop and maintain test plans, test cases, and test environments for functional, application, and regression testing.
  • Prioritize test scenarios and create structured execution plans to implement those scenarios.
  • Identify, document, and report defects and issues discovered during testing cycles.
  • Collaborate with development and database administration teams to investigate and resolve identified issues.
  • Ensure data integrity and consistency across multiple database systems throughout testing.
  • Monitor database performance and deliver recommendations for optimization.
  • Interpret requirement documents and update test documentation accordingly.
  • Gather testing requirements and objectives through ongoing coordination with project stakeholders.
  • Work with customer representatives as needed during active test cycles, including outside normal business hours when required.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8 years of experience designing automated tests by creating scripts that run database testing functions automatically.
  • 8 years of experience prioritizing test scenarios and creating execution plans to implement those scenarios.
  • 8 years of experience creating test plans, test cases, and preparing test environments.
  • 8 years of experience performing moderately complex functional, application, and regression testing.
  • 8 years of knowledge of the software development life cycle and software development methodologies.
  • 8 years of demonstrated ability to interpret requirement documents and update test documentation accordingly.
  • 8 years of experience with analysis, planning, and management reporting functions.
  • 8 years of experience acquiring and applying knowledge of a customer's business operations within an assigned area.
  • 8 years of demonstrated strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • 8 years of experience working directly with customers during test cycles.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work successfully with both technical and non-technical groups while managing multiple responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience with the Texas DIR Project Delivery Framework and associated document templates.
  • 2 years of familiarity with information architecture and information management methodologies.
  • 2 years of familiarity with existing and planned software technology and global, regional, and local software architecture and infrastructure components.

Additional Requirements

  • Interviews will be conducted via Microsoft Teams.
  • Candidates must already reside in Texas; submissions of candidates currently located out of state and planning to relocate will not be considered.
  • Candidates must be local to the Austin area, within a 50-mile radius of the primary work location.
  • Travel, per diem, parking, and living expenses are at the candidate's expense.
  • May be required to work outside normal business hours on weekends, evenings, and holidays as requested; work exceeding 40 hours per week must be pre-approved by HHSC.

Work Location and Schedule

Location: 701 W. 51st Street, Austin, Texas 78751

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, excluding Texas state holidays; extended hours may be required with prior approval.
Work Arrangement: Hybrid — 2 days onsite (Monday and Tuesday) and 3 days remote per week; subject to change at the discretion of the hiring team.
