About Breaker

The way humans use robots is broken.

Modern problems demand more robots than we have operators. Every drone, ground vehicle, and maritime system requires dedicated training, manual control, and constant oversight. One operator per robot. One pilot per mission.

Breaker's AI agent breaks this constraint.

Our technology turns any robot into a truly autonomous, self-organizing teammate. Operators command and query teams of robots through natural language conversations over the push-to-talk radios they already carry, no laptops, no controllers, no additional gear.

Instead of manually flying search patterns across three different screens, you say, "survey this area and flag anything unusual." The robot team figures out how to divide the task, coordinate their movements, and report back what matters.

We're fundamentally changing the operator-to-robot ratio. Small teams become force multipliers.

Our software deploys directly onboard each robot, enabling real-time, intent-driven control even in contested environments with limited bandwidth. We're solving problems most AI companies never touch: sub-second inference on edge hardware with strict latency, power, and connectivity constraints.

We're backed by some of the best investors globally and growing our team across Austin, Texas, and Sydney, Australia. We're a small team of experienced engineers moving fast on technology that will define how humans and machines work together for decades to come.

Join us if you want to help build the robots we were promised 🤖

About the Role

You'll rapidly develop and deploy features that win contracts and define our product roadmap. This role sits at the intersection of customer needs and technical possibilities, building the technology that converts opportunities into customers.

You'll work at the application layer, integrating Breaker's agent with new hardware platforms and sensors. Ground vehicles with custom sensor packages. Novel decision-making logic for specific mission sets. Autonomous behaviors that solve problems customers haven't articulated yet. You'll prototype it, demonstrate it in the field, and translate what you learn into actionable product direction.

This means hands-on hardware integration in the workshop, field deployments with customers, and rapid iteration based on real operational feedback. You'll split time between Austin, customer sites, and wherever the next opportunity takes us. Expect to troubleshoot integration issues in the field, run demos for customers, and close the loop between customer requirements and engineering priorities.

This isn't production engineering. It's customer-facing R&D at speed. You'll operate with significant autonomy, owning the entire cycle from initial customer conversation through prototype development to field demonstration. Your work directly influences which capabilities we prioritize and how we position them.

You'll work directly with the founders and engineering leads, feeding real-world deployment experience back into our product strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rapidly prototype and integrate new capabilities that win contracts and close deals
  • Own new platform integrations end-to-end: ground vehicles, maritime systems, novel sensor configurations
  • Build custom features that solve specific customer mission requirements and demonstrate competitive advantage
  • Operate in the field: deploy systems, run demonstrations, troubleshoot live, and serve as Breaker's technical authority with customers
  • Identify capability gaps and technical blockers through hands-on integration work, driving product priorities for the core team
  • Work directly with our US missions lead to convert customer requirements into deployable technology
  • Maintain tight feedback loops with Sydney engineering on what's needed in the field and why it matters operationally
  • Move fast between projects in a constant cycle: integrate, demonstrate, learn, iterate
  • Travel frequently for customer engagements, field testing, and live demonstrations

Requirements

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Proven robotics development experience deploying software on real hardware in operational environments.
  • Proficiency in deploying code or firmware to edge devices (NVIDIA Jetson preferred)
  • Proven experience with Python and/or C++ as primary programming languages
  • Experience with docker and/or other containerization technologies
  • Track record of delivering under pressure in high-stakes scenarios: customer demonstrations, competitive evaluations, live system deployments.
  • Strong application-layer engineering capabilities withthe ability to integrate with existing systems rapidly.
  • Hands-on experience with ROS/ROS2 and edge deployment on robotic platforms.
  • Field-capable engineer comfortable with live troubleshooting, real-time problem solving, and maintaining system performance in challenging conditions.
  • Clear communicator who operates effectively across distributed teams and represents Breaker professionally to customers and partners.
  • Frequent travel is required for customer engagements and field operations

Preferred Skills

  • Early-stage startup experience, particularly in robotics or defense technology
  • Portfolio of technical projects demonstrating initiative and execution beyond professional responsibilities
  • Experience with ground or maritime autonomous systems (distinct challenges from aerial platforms)
  • Entrepreneurial background or experience building something from concept to deployment
  • Direct customer-facing experience, translating operational requirements into delivered capabilities
  • Broad technical foundation with the ability to rapidly acquire new skills across multiple domains
  • US citizenship
  • US Security Clearance

BenefitsWhy Join Us?

You'll be an owner, not a renter. We're at the stage where foundational decisions are still being made and entire systems need to be built from scratch. Your work won't be maintaining someone else's legacy - you'll be creating what comes next. The problems you solve and the systems you build will define how Breaker scales.

You'll work with people who've done this before. Our team has shipped production robotics systems, scaled infrastructure, and solved the kind of hard integration problems that only come up when software meets the physical world. You won't be the only person in the room who's debugged a sensor fusion pipeline or optimized inference on a Jetson.

You'll solve problems that don't exist anywhere else. Most companies are building incremental improvements on established technology. We're defining new categories - which means the work is harder, more ambiguous, and infinitely more interesting.

You'll work hard, together. We're in the office every day, grinding on hard problems alongside great people. We've built a workspace where the best work happens - access to hardware, quick decisions, real collaboration. We're flexible when life requires it, but we're looking for people who want to show up, get stuck in, and build something significant with a team they respect.

We're going global. Backed by globally recognised investors, we're growing teams across Sydney, Australia and Austin, Texas. If you want exposure to international expansion and the opportunity to help build across regions, that path exists here.

You'll own what you build. Generous equity packages mean when Breaker wins, you win.

Location. Austin, Texas

If you're excited about the opportunity to be the face of breakthrough autonomous systems technology and help define how the defense industry adopts AI-powered robotics, we'd love to hear from you.
