This hybrid role combines pre-sales engineering, field-based site surveys, solution design, pricing support, proposal development, and project coordination. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and consultation across customers, sales, engineering, operations, vendors, and subcontractors. They will evaluate existing telecommunications infrastructure through field assessments or by managing subcontracted resources, transforming customer requirements and site findings into practical network designs and actionable scopes of work. The role requires the ability to present and justify recommended solutions through professional proposals, presentations, and customer-facing demonstrations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site fiber and Wi-Fi surveys at commercial, multifamily, senior living, hospitality, campus, and enterprise properties, including physical walkthroughs, access point placement validation, coverage and capacity observations, and documentation for predictive or active Wi-Fi survey analysis.
  • Inspect and document existing fiber infrastructure, conduit routes, pathways, handholes, telecommunications rooms, risers, MDF/IDF locations, demarcation points, equipment spaces, and power availability. Capture findings through measurements, photographs, marked floor plans, pathway sketches, equipment inventories, and detailed survey reports.
  • Identify installation constraints, safety concerns, permitting considerations, access limitations, restoration requirements, labor assumptions, and construction risks; use these findings and customer requirements to develop installation methodologies, preliminary scopes of work, and design assumptions.
  • Partner with account executives as the primary technical resource for assigned opportunities, leading discovery sessions to understand customer goals, current infrastructure, operational requirements, and budget considerations.
  • Design fiber, conduit, structured cabling, Wi-Fi, switching, voice, and managed network solutions suited to customer requirements and site conditions; develop supporting network diagrams, bills of materials (BOMs), labor estimates, equipment specifications, and implementation recommendations.
  • Present proposals, technical recommendations, and solution demonstrations to customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Validate technical feasibility and internal alignment with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and validate project pricing for equipment, materials, subcontractor labor, travel, installation, testing, documentation, and contingencies; solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotes and reconcile them with field findings and scope assumptions.
  • Identify, onboard, coordinate, and manage low-voltage contractors, fiber construction partners, survey resources, and field service providers; develop and review their scopes, bid instructions, pricing submissions, schedules, deliverables, and safety requirements.
  • Review subcontractor work quality and survey deliverables, performing field verification or quality assurance inspections as needed; foster productive relationships and ensure compliance with documentation, schedule, quality, safety, and customer-service expectations.
  • Escalate scope changes, deficiencies, risks, and potential cost impacts before additional work proceeds.
  • Lead or participate in sales-to-operations handoffs, providing complete field documentation and reviewing assumptions, drawings, materials, subcontractor responsibilities, access requirements, and installation sequencing with project teams.
  • Provide technical clarification and field troubleshooting support during complex deployments.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in telecommunications, network engineering, sales engineering, fiber deployment, wireless engineering, low-voltage infrastructure, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting field surveys for fiber, conduit, structured cabling, Wi-Fi, or telecommunications projects.
  • Experience with Ekahau, Visio, AutoCAD, GIS, or comparable surveying and design tools.
  • Experience with managed Wi-Fi, switching, carrier services, and managed network services.
  • Familiarity with fiber test results, optical power testing, labeling standards, and closeout packages.
  • Knowledge of permitting, right-of-way, utility coordination, low-voltage construction practices, and applicable cabling standards.
  • Working knowledge of inside plant and outside plant fiber infrastructure, conduit and pathway design, structured cabling practices, telecommunications spaces, Ethernet, IP networking, and enterprise Wi-Fi.
  • Experience developing technical scopes, bills of materials, labor estimates, pricing assumptions, proposals, or statements of work.
  • Demonstrated experience managing subcontractors, field technicians, construction partners, or distributed field resources.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and mark up architectural drawings, floor plans, riser diagrams, construction documents, and network diagrams.
  • Strong written, verbal, presentation, documentation, and customer-facing communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple opportunities, deadlines, site visits, and stakeholders with limited supervision.
  • Ability to embrace corporate values, understand the company mission, and exemplify CCI leadership behaviors.
