It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. Description of Work
The Security Auditor position is assigned to the Security Accountability Section.The position is not assigned to a specific location, but the office location will be based on the selected candidate. This position will report directly to the Security Audit Supervisor.
Key responsibilities include:
Conducting audits throughout all facilities.
Requires extensive travel and will be required to audit all Institutions and CRV centers on a weekly basis.
Responsible for generating a written report of findings for each facility audited.
--Reports must be submitted within designated time frames.
--Reports must note any deficiencies and recommendations for corrective action.
--Subsequent follow-up written report must also be submitted, when applicable.
Serve as the subject matter expert as it relates to security audits.
Assist facilities by recommendations directly related to proper security practices.
Attend training courses, workshops and/or seminars offered to strengthen knowledge and stay abreast of the latest and most innovative security trends.
Responsible for reviewing, developing and upon request of management updating security related policy.
Make recommendations regarding revisions to the security audit instrument.
Responsible for researching and evaluating the latest security-related technology and/or equipment to enhance the operations of prison facilities.
Make written recommendations to executive management regarding research conducted.
Must stay abreast of the most recent and authoritative findings of inmate custody, security and program management and will travel extensively in the performance of job duties.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade Range: $50,088.00 - $87,654.00

- Demonstrated expertise in departmental rules, policies and procedures concerning the custody, care, and treatment of inmates.
Proven experience with basic principles and practices of operating a correctional facility.
Demonstrated experience with security and safety measures, regulations and equipment.
Proven experience communicating effectively in verbal and written form.

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and one year of supervisory, administrative or consultative experience in corrections or related work;
ORHigh school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience at or above the Correctional Lieutenant level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications:
Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission.
