Our team explores and provides solutions for deeply complex problems by conducting research in areas of Recommender Systems,  Machine Learning, Data Science, NLP and Information Retrieval. We work closely with the product teams in order to bring state of the art technology to production environment.

Our team develops state-of-the-art recommendations systems, including deep learning based retrieval systems for personalized recommendations, machine learned ranking models, GenAI/LLM powered recommendations. We are building cutting edge recommender systems powered by the latest ML, NLP, LLM/GenAI/RAG and AI technologies. 

As a senior researcher in our group you are expected to own the full lifecycle of  your work: from understanding the business problem, to conducting the research to find the right ML approach, to production deployment. Think, full-stack researcher / data scientist. Moreover, we see great importance in publishing our work in scientific top-tier conferences (RECSYS, NIPS, WWW, WSDM, SIGIR, EMNLP, and others).

What You Will Accomplish

Being a part of eBay’s Research group means:

  • You will conduct world-class research in the area of Recommender Systems,  Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing.

  • You will solve complex problems for eBay's core product and see your work impacts billions of people around the world.

  • You will work with top scientists to conduct state of the art research.

  • You will have a huge part in the next generation of eBay’s products.

What you will bring:

  • MS in a relevant domain. PhD is an advantage.

  • Proven experience in the fields of Recommender Systems, Machine Learning and NLP.

  • Demonstrated experience in designing, implementing, and optimizing complex deep learning models for real-world applications

  • Combination of strong research, engineering and business acumen skills.

  • Deep understanding of computer science fundamentals, data structures, and algorithms.

  • Experience in programming in Python 

  • Experience building large scale distributed applications and expertise in any OO language (Scala, Java, etc.) - a plus

  • Experience in working in a complex production environment - a plus.

  • Publication record in machine learning or related conferences - a plus.

  • Experience with Large Language Models (LLMs) and prompt engineering - a plus

The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:

$152,400 - $247,800

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.

If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
