Title
Senior Counsel, Services Legal, Security Solutions
Overview
Mastercard is seeking a strategic, business-minded commercial and technology attorney to join the Services Legal team supporting the SSO business. The role will focus primarily on SSO's cybersecurity and threat intelligence offerings including cyber tools that protect the payments ecosystem, as well as enterprise cybersecurity products for CISOs; the role will support product development, commercialization, and sales activities across this portfolio.
This is a client-facing role that involves close collaboration with product management, engineering, sales, customer delivery, and senior business leadership. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted legal partner to fast-moving teams bringing complex technology products to market in a global, regulated environment.
The position will be based in either Purchase, New York or Miami, Florida.
While the role focuses on cybersecurity and threat intelligence, the position may evolve over time to support additional Security Solutions offerings and/or broader, region based product legal coverage as business needs and priorities develop.
Role and Responsibilities
The role provides end-to-end legal support for cybersecurity and threat intelligence products and, as required, for additional Security Solutions offerings and/or regional Security Solutions portfolios, with a particular focus on enabling commercialization while managing legal, regulatory, and reputational risk in a practical and solutions-oriented manner.
Responsibilities include advising product and engineering teams throughout the product lifecycle, including product design, development, deployment, and go-to-market execution. The role supports both new and existing products, including incremental enhancements, pilots, and scaled offerings.
The position involves structuring, drafting, and negotiating a wide range of commercial and technology agreements, including customer agreements, pilot and proof-of-concept agreements, software and platform terms, statements of work, partner and reseller arrangements, and vendor agreements. The role partners closely with sales and delivery teams to support customer transactions and advance deals efficiently while appropriately managing risk.
The role also includes advising on legal and regulatory considerations applicable to cybersecurity and data-driven products, including privacy, cybersecurity, intellectual property, and related compliance matters. The counsel will work closely with subject-matter experts across Legal, Compliance, Privacy, Regulatory Affairs, and Information Security to identify issues early and develop mitigations that can be implemented at scale.
The position supports both commercial and government-focused customer opportunities as needed, including advising on contracting and regulatory considerations relevant to public sector or regulated customers.
In addition, the role participates in relevant Security Solutions governance forums and processes, including product reviews, commercialization approvals, pricing initiatives, and related operational workflows. The role contributes to efforts to improve consistency, reduce friction, and make products easier to do business with.
The role includes responsibility for managing outside counsel where appropriate, ensuring compliance with internal policies and budget expectations, and delivering targeted training and guidance to product, sales, and delivery teams.
Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold a Juris Doctor degree and be admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
The role requires strong commercial and transactional experience, including significant experience drafting and negotiating complex technology and commercial agreements. Prior in-house experience or training at a highly regarded law firm is strongly preferred.
Experience supporting technology-driven businesses is essential, with prior exposure to cybersecurity, data-driven products, SaaS, or enterprise technology offerings strongly preferred. Familiarity with data privacy, cybersecurity, and intellectual property issues is an advantage.
The successful candidate will demonstrate sound business judgment, the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment with incomplete information, and a practical approach to balancing legal risk with business objectives.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential. The role requires comfort advising senior stakeholders, working across a matrixed organization, and building trusted relationships with business partners.
The candidate should operate comfortably across multiple priorities, work independently while collaborating closely with colleagues, and bring a solutions-oriented mindset to complex and evolving issues.
Additional Information
This job description is not intended to be exhaustive, and the responsibilities of the role may evolve over time to support the needs of the Security Solutions business and the broader Services organization.
