This position will design, scale, and govern the company’s enterprise-wide data architecture. Reporting directly to the Vice President of Technology, this leader will ensure that data across product, go-to-market, and G&A functions is unified, reliable, and actionable. The Sr. Director will oversee both the architecture that underpins data management and the analytics capabilities that deliver business-critical insights, driving a culture of data-driven decision-making across the organization. 

What You'll Do:

  • Own the design, implementation, and governance of Commerce’s enterprise data architecture across Product, GTM, and G&A functions, ensuring scalability, security, and compliance.

  • Lead the analytics team in delivering actionable insights to executive leadership, enabling faster and more accurate strategic decisions. This includes responsibility for the company’s data lake, data warehouse, and data analytics layers and associated teams.

  • Partner with business systems, engineering, and functional leaders to ensure data infrastructure meets operational, analytical, and reporting needs globally.

  • Establish and enforce company-wide data governance standards, policies, and processes that ensure high data quality, consistency, and integrity.

  • Champion the democratization of data, building self-service AI enabled analytics capabilities and empowering teams across the organization with access to reliable insights.

  • Build and manage a high-performing team of data developers, architects, and analysts.

  • Identify and evaluate emerging technologies (e.g., AI/ML for analytics, modern data platforms, cloud-native architectures) to improve efficiency and scalability of the data ecosystem.

  • Partner with the AI Operations function to integrate advanced analytics and automation into enterprise workflows.

  • Partner closely with the Product & Engineering to unify product and platform data architecture in order to deliver key signals and insight to the business around Customer Usage and Adoption

  • Collaborate closely with the leaders in Business Applications to design and build the systems and data architecture that underpin enterprise reporting, analytics, and automation, ensuring alignment across all technology investments.

  • Collaborate with GTM leadership, Finance, Product, and Customer Success to ensure analytics outputs directly support pipeline management, forecasting, churn analysis, and revenue growth initiatives.

Who You Are:

  • Enterprise Data Leadership – Demonstrated success leading data architecture and analytics teams in global, high-growth environments.

  • Data Architecture Expertise – Deep technical experience in building and managing scalable, cloud-native data infrastructures, including data lakes, warehouses, and streaming architectures.

  • Analytics at Scale – Proven ability to develop analytics platforms that deliver real-time, actionable insights across multiple business functions.

  • Governance and Compliance – Strong background in data governance, privacy, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, SOC 2).

  • AI & Advanced Analytics – Experience integrating AI/ML models into analytics environments to drive predictive insights and process automation.

  • Cross-Functional Influence – Ability to partner with executives across product, GTM, finance, and operations to align data strategy with business goals.

  • Team Builder – Track record of recruiting, developing, and retaining high-performing technical and analytical talent.

  • 8+ years of technical experience in a role requiring business stakeholder collaboration (Analytics, Business Intelligence, Data Science, Data Warehousing, Data Architecture and Strategy, Consulting, or Product Management).

  • 5+ years of people management experience with proven ability to groom high-performing future leaders.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a technical discipline (information/data science, mathematics, computer science, etc).

  • Simplifier and executive influencer who utilizes exceptional storytelling skills to drive change through written, verbal, and presentation tactics.

  • Cross-functional leader with indirect influence finesse and excellent stakeholder management; inspires confidence and collaboration across departmental boundaries.

  • Mindset of a consultant and strategist, constantly questioning whether there’s a better way or a higher value to achieve for the business.

  • Well-versed in the tradeoffs of different data storage approaches (row-oriented vs columnar, relational vs non-relational, structured vs unstructured).

  • Deep knowledge of cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Redshift, or similar), visualization tools (Tableau, Looker, PowerBI or similar), and AI platforms (Claude, OpenAI, Gemini).

  • Experience building logical and physical data models.

  • Availability to travel domestically 4–6 times annually.

The national base salary range for this role is posted above in this job post.

Final compensation will be determined based on factors such as relevant experience, skills, qualifications and geographic location. We also consider internal equity to help ensure fair and consistent pay practices across our teams.

Where applicable, this role may also be eligible for variable compensation (such as bonus or commission), equity, and benefits in accordance with local policies.
