FloSports is the leading digital platform for underserved sports, combining live and on-demand streaming, original programming, data, and technology to help sports grow their audiences and build sustainable businesses, from youth to professional levels. By bringing thousands of events and communities onto one platform, Flo creates scale where none previously existed, connecting passionate fans with the sports they love while giving athletes, organizers, and rights holders the tools to reach and engage a global audience.

Flo streams more than 50,000 live events annually across sports, including motorsports, wrestling, hockey, track & field, cheer, jiu-jitsu, NCAA Division II and III athletics, and more. We’re looking for people who are passionate about sports, embody accountability, collaboration, curiosity, positivity, grit, and excellence, and are motivated to help grow and elevate the communities we serve.

THE ROLE:

You will play a key role in designing, building, and operating the live streaming platform at FloSports, delivering tens of thousands of live events every year to fans around the world. You'll own the backend services and APIs behind that pipeline end-to-end, and you'll be accountable for keeping the full live signal chain reliable under real-world broadcast conditions, including redundancy and graceful failover. Prior live-video experience is a plus rather than a prerequisite. If you're a strong backend engineer, we'll bring you up to speed on the broadcast pipeline.

As a senior member of the team, you will also participate in an on-call rotation to help ensure the reliability of our live streaming platform.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Build and maintain backend microservices using Node.js/NestJS and/or Go, and design data models and queries for SQL databases.

  • Write clean, maintainable, well-tested code and follow team best practices for code quality.

  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

  • Collaborate closely with team members, product managers and other stakeholders to define and deliver new features.

  • Help operate, automate, and improve our live video pipeline, the systems that take a broadcast signal in and turn it into a stream people watch (ingest, transcoding, packaging, and delivery).

  • Work at scale, across tens of thousands of events a year, with a focus on performance, scalability, and reliability.

  • Build tooling and alerting to monitor stream health and viewer quality of experience (QoE), catching issues before they reach audiences.

  • Diagnose and resolve live broadcast and streaming pipeline issues in real time, including during live events, and drive lasting improvements to redundancy and failover.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in TypeScript, Node.js and/or Go, including a solid grasp of language features and design patterns.

  • Experience building and maintaining RESTful APIs, and familiarity with NestJS or a similar backend framework.

  • Comfort using AI tools (e.g. Copilot, Claude Code, ChatGPT) to multiply your impact as an engineer, accelerating development, debugging, and learning unfamiliar domains rather than relying on them as a crutch.

  • Experience working with relational databases.

  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures.

  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS (EC2, Lambda, S3, etc.).

  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

BONUS POINTS:

  • Aptitude for, or hands-on exposure to, live broadcast video at scale, including multi-event, multi-channel contribution, transcoding, packaging, and delivery.

  • Working knowledge of the live broadcast signal chain, including redundancy, failover, and graceful degradation under real-world conditions.

  • Familiarity with live streaming transport protocols (SRT, RTMP, Zixi, WebRTC) and how they integrate with media pipelines.

  • Experience with tools like AWS Elemental and/or video encoding tools such as OBS, and vMix.

  • Experience with NoSQL solutions like Firebase/Firestore.

  • Experience with messaging solutions such as SNS/SQS, MQTT, Kafka, and Pubsub.

  • Hands-on experience writing and executing unit and integration tests using Jest and Vitest.

  • Hands-on experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Knowledge of security best practices for API development and data handling.

  • Experience working in Agile development environments.

  • Previous experience with end-to-end (E2E) testing frameworks.

  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and integrating tests into deployment workflows.

OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY:

  • Annual equity awards for all top performers

  • Competitive and comprehensive medical, dental and vision plans

  • Peace of mind through company-paid short-term disability, long-term disability and life insurance

  • Generous 401(K) company match vested immediately

  • Progressive parental leave policies

  • Flexible paid time off

  • Hack-a-thons and a full calendar of team-building and social events
