Job Summary:

We're looking for a Senior Java Software Engineer to join our Product Support Engineering team, focused on our court case management platform. This role sits at the intersection of live production support and ongoing modernization — you'll troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in a mature Java-based system, work across a service-oriented integration layer connecting to third-party attorney and e-filing systems and help guide the platform's evolution toward a more modern stack.

Neumo Court sits at the center of a large, real-world integration ecosystem spanning multiple state court systems, e-filing vendors, and attorney case-management platforms. You'll gain deep expertise across a broad technology stack spanning legacy enterprise Java and modern cloud-native services, with direct, visible impact: your fixes keep real court dockets moving and real filings from getting stuck. This is an excellent role for an engineer who likes solving hard, high-stakes technical puzzles and wants both depth in a mature codebase and exposure to where the platform is headed next.

 Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and resolve production issues across a multi-tier Java application, including backend services, database interactions, and integration middleware.
  • Investigate and fix defects in our Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) integration layer, which connects our platform to third-party case management, e-filing, and document systems (including state-specific and vendor-specific integrations).
  • Trace issues through XML/XSLT transformations, JMS messaging flows, and web service calls (SOAP/REST) to identify root causes.
  • Collaborate with QA, support, and product teams to reproduce, triage, and prioritize customer-reported issues.
  • Write clear root-cause analyses and remediation plans for complex, cross-system bugs.
  • Contribute to the modernization of legacy components (e.g., migrating from Struts/JSP toward Spring MVC and modern front-end frameworks) as capacity allows.
  • Participate in code reviews and help maintain code quality standards across the team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8+ years of professional Java development experience.
  • 5+ years working with the Spring Framework (Core, MVC).
  • 5+ years working with Hibernate or another JPA-based ORM.
  • 5+ years of hands-on SQL experience, including query debugging and performance tuning.
  • 5+ years building or maintaining SOAP and/or REST web services (e.g., using CXF, JAXB, or similar).
  • 2+ years of experience with message-oriented middleware (e.g., JMS, ActiveMQ).
  • Experience with an ESB or integration middleware platform (Mule, Camel, or similar).
  • Experience with electronic court filing standards (ECF/EFM) or e-filing vendor integrations (e.g., Tyler Technologies).
  • Experience with electronic court filing standards (ECF/EFM) or e-filing vendor integrations (e.g., Tyler Technologies).
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (Azure) and infrastructure-as-code tools (Terraform, Bicep).
  • Prior experience in legal tech, court systems, or government software.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with legacy Java web frameworks such as Struts and JSP — willingness to work within and help modernize these is more important than prior expertise.
  • Exposure to Groovy or other JVM-based scripting languages.
  • Spring Boot or modern REST microservice development experience.
  • Front-end experience with Angular or another modern JS framework.
  • Demonstrated ability to debug and support production systems, including reading and reasoning about legacy code you didn't write.
  • Comfort working with XML-based data transformation (XSLT) or similar data-mapping technologies.

 Work Environment
:

  • Office setting with a moderate noise level.
  • The employee will work at an individual workstation, using a telephone and computer.

 Physical Demands
:

  • Must be able to remain seated for extended periods.
  • Regular use of a computer and other office machinery, such as printers and copy machines.
  • Occasional movement around the office.
  • Frequent communication via telephone.
