We are seeking a Senior Manager, Marketplace Strategy & Operations to support strategic planning, business operations, performance management, and cross-functional execution for Microsoft Marketplace. 

This role will partner with Marketplace leaders and stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Sales, Finance, Partner, Marketing, and Business Planning to translate business priorities into clear plans, measurable outcomes, and scalable operating processes. 

The successful candidate will bring solid analytical thinking, operational discipline, and the ability to influence across organizational boundaries. They will help Marketplace leadership identify business insights, manage priorities, address execution risks, and improve organizational effectiveness.


Responsibilities

Strategy and Business Planning 

  • Lead defined workstreams within annual and multi-year Marketplace planning processes. 

  • Develop strategic analyses, business cases, and recommendations that inform Marketplace priorities and investment decisions. 

  • Translate leadership priorities into clear objectives, execution plans, milestones, and success measures. 

  • Conduct market, customer, partner, and market  analysis to identify growth opportunities. 

  • Support scenario planning and business modeling for strategic initiatives. 

Business Operations and Governance 

  • Manage key elements of the Marketplace business management rhythm, including business reviews, planning forums, scorecards, and leadership reporting. 

  • Coordinate Monthly Business Reviews, Executive Business Reviews, QBRs, and annual planning deliverables. 

  • Establish clear processes, decision points, and accountability mechanisms for assigned initiatives. 

  • Track business risks, dependencies, and execution gaps, partnering with owners to develop mitigation plans. 

  • Improve the quality, consistency, and timeliness of business reporting. 

Insights and Performance Management 

  • Develop and maintain KPIs and performance frameworks across Marketplace customer, partner, seller, and revenue motions. 

  • Analyze business performance and synthesize complex information into actionable insights. 

  • Monitor trends in customer adoption, partner engagement, ecosystem health, and commercial performance. 

  • Identify performance gaps and recommend actions to improve business outcomes. 

  • Create concise, executive-ready narratives that connect data, insights, implications, and recommendations. 

Cross-Functional Execution 

  • Partner with Sales, Finance, Engineering, Product, Marketing, Incentives, Partner, and Customer Success teams to advance Marketplace priorities. 

  • Lead cross-functional workstreams requiring coordination across multiple teams and stakeholder groups. 

  • Build alignment around objectives, roles, timelines, dependencies, and expected outcomes. 

  • Influence stakeholders without direct authority and constructively resolve execution challenges. 

  • Ensure that decisions and commitments are translated into measurable follow-through. 

Organizational Effectiveness 

  • Support organizational planning, resource prioritization, and investment analysis. 

  • Identify opportunities to simplify processes, clarify ownership, and improve operating efficiency. 

  • Develop scalable tools, templates, and business management practices. 

  • Use automation and data-driven approaches to improve reporting and operational execution. 

  • Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, inclusion, and continuous improvement. 

Team and Talent Leadership 

  • May manage or provide workstream leadership to a small team of strategy, operations, business management, or program professionals. 

  • Provide coaching, feedback, and development support to team members and project contributors. 

  • Create clarity on priorities, responsibilities, and expected outcomes. 

  • Contribute to team capability building, talent development, and knowledge sharing. 
 

Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Finance, Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years experience in business consulting, sales, sales operations, information technology (IT), account management, business development, marketing, IT field sales, or a related field OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years experience in in Near Term Strategy (1-2 years out), Management Consulting, or Finance.
Additional or preferred qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Computer Science, or related field AND 6+ years of marketing, strategy, sales, program management, project management, business planning, consulting, finance, economics, and/or partner organization experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience in strategy, business operations, consulting, business management, finance, product strategy, or program management. 
  • Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional initiatives. 
  • Experience translating strategic priorities into structured plans and measurable outcomes. 
  • Solid analytical, problem-solving, project management, and communication skills. 
  • Ability to influence stakeholders and drive execution across organizational boundaries.\
  • Experience in cloud platforms, marketplaces, partner ecosystems, SaaS, AI, or digital commerce. 
  • Experience supporting business planning and operational governance within a large technology organization. 
  • Proven commercial, financial, and analytical capabilities. 
  • Experience developing KPIs, scorecards, business cases, and executive-level materials. 
  • Experience working across geographically distributed teams and stakeholder groups.

Sales Strategy Enablement IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $106,400 - $203,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $137,600 - $222,600 per year.
