eBay’s Customer Support Platform organization is seeking a highly qualified Senior Engineering Manager. This leader will guide strategic engineering initiatives passionate about platform modernization, AI-enabled transformation, and driving outstanding performance across key customer support systems.
This leader will help evolve long-standing enterprise platforms into scalable, cloud-native, connected, and intelligent systems. These systems improve customer experience, operational efficiency, and agent productivity worldwide.
The role requires a technically strong engineering leader with deep experience in distributed systems, modern full-stack development, enterprise architecture, and large-scale engineering execution. The ideal candidate combines strong technical depth with organizational leadership, multi-functional influence, and the ability to lead high-performing engineering teams through complex transformation programs.
This position will partner closely with development, product development, project coordination, IT operations, data, and business representatives across global teams while helping build long-term platform and technology strategy.
This role also requires a strong technology evangelist who can champion AI-enabled development methodologies, engineering efficiency improvements, observability practices, reliability in production environments, operational excellence, and platform accuracy across the organization.

Drive engineering guidelines across the software development lifecycle, code quality, observability, reliability, scalability, security, and outstanding operational performance.
Act as an evangelist for AI-enabled software development practices, developer efficiency tools, automation, and modern engineering processes.
Drive prioritization and execution across multiple concurrent initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
Improve platform reliability, engineering velocity, customer experience, and efficiency through technology innovation and process improvements.
Influence long-term architecture and platform strategy while balancing business priorities, technical debt reduction, scalability, and operational sustainability.
Represent the organization in leadership reviews, operational governance forums, strategic planning discussions, and cross-functional transformation initiatives.

12+ years of software engineering experience with significant experience leading engineering teams and large-scale platform initiatives.
Strong hands-on technical expertise in modern full-stack application development.
Strong experience designing and building scalable APIs, microservices, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and modern frontend technologies such as React..
Deep knowledge of software architecture, system scalability, reliability, resiliency, observability, operational governance, and engineering excellence.
Experience influencing architecture and technical strategy across teams or organizations.
Experience working with globally distributed engineering and business teams across multiple time zones.
Strong communication, stakeholder management, collaboration, and negotiation skills.
Proven ability to mentor engineers, grow technical leaders, and build high-performing engineering organizations.

Experience modernizing legacy enterprise systems into scalable cloud-native architectures.

Experience leading initiatives focused on observability, production stability, platform reliability, operational governance, and service accuracy.
Experience with technologies and platforms including Java, Spring Boot, React, Python, REST APIs, GraphQL, Microservices, Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD systems, cloud platforms, and infrastructure automation.
Strong understanding of modern web application architectures and frontend/backend integration patterns.
Experience driving engineering governance, platform standardization, operational maturity, and engineering productivity initiatives.
Experience leading multi-quarter or multi-year transformation programs across multiple engineering teams.

Additional Details
The base pay range for this position is expected in the range below:
$156,800 - $255,300Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including location, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a target bonus and restricted stock units (as applicable) in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as PTO and parental leave). Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
If hired, employees will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
