Define the multi-year technical vision for Procore’s mobile platform across iOS, Android, cross-platform shared logic, GraphQL, backend, and cloud services. Establish architecture standards, shared patterns, offline sync, CI/CD, observability, and security practices. Lead major design decisions, mentor senior engineers, partner with executives and product teams, prototype high-risk solutions, write production code, and drive organization-wide technical strategy and execution.

We're looking for a Solution Architect/Senior Principal Software Engineer to join Procore's Mobile Engineering organization.
In this role, you'll help define the technical foundation for how Procore's mobile experiences spanning Field Solutions, Quality & Safety, Project Management, Financials, Schedule, and Assets are built, shared, and scaled across iOS, Android, and the backend and cloud services that power them.
You'll work closely with engineering, product, UX, and platform architects to shape the next generation of Procore's mobile and cross-platform strategy, including cross-platform shared logic (e.g., Kotlin Multiplatform), a federated GraphQL backend-for-frontend layer, and the broader set of Mobile Platform capabilities such as offline sync, CI/CD, observability, and security posture etc. that keep mobile quality and velocity high as the platform scales.

As a Solution Architect/Senior Principle Software Engineer, you will be primarily responsible for establishing the strategic technical direction for mobile, cloud, and backend architecture, creating reference patterns other teams build on, and remaining hands-on to drive execution of that strategy across one or more of Procore's core product areas. This is a high-visibility opportunity to use your technical depth, leadership, and organizational skills to reduce duplicated effort across platforms, harden the mobile-to-backend architecture, and measurably improve the value we deliver to customers in the field.

This position reports to the Senior Director of Mobile Engineering and will be a 3 day per week hybrid role located in the Austin, Texas office. We're looking for someone to join our team immediately.

What You'll Do:

At Procore, AI isn't a specialized tool, it's a core competency. We expect every team member to be AI-literate, leveraging generative tools and agentic workflows to move faster and work smarter. You won't just use AI; you'll help set the technical direction for AI-assisted mobile and backend engineering that the rest of the organization follows.

  • Own the multi-year technical vision and architecture for Procore's mobile platform, spanning native iOS and Android, cross-platform shared logic (e.g., Kotlin Multiplatform), and the GraphQL federated backend-for-frontend layer that connects mobile to backend and cloud services
  • Set architectural direction, standards, and patterns for how mobile features are built once and shared across platforms, reducing the current pattern of building the same feature 2–4x across iOS, Android, and web
  • Shape the technical strategy across core Mobile Platform capabilities such as offline-first data sync and conflict resolution, CI/CD build and release infrastructure, observability (crash reporting, performance telemetry, app store health), and security posture,  treating these as first-class architectural concerns rather than afterthoughts. These are illustrative of the platform's scope, not an exhaustive list; the specific mix of capabilities you lead will evolve with the platform's needs
  • Act as a top technical authority on the most consequential mobile, cloud, and backend design decisions including subgraph architecture, data ownership boundaries (e.g., in-monolith vs. externalized services), and API contracts between mobile and backend teams
  • Serve as a force multiplier: mentor and grow Principal and Staff engineers across the mobile organization, cultivate the next generation of senior technical leaders, and raise the engineering bar through architecture reviews, design forums, and technical strategy sessions
  • Partner with backend, platform, and infrastructure teams to ensure cloud services, APIs, and the broader mobile platform can reliably support mobile scale, performance, and security requirements as the organization grows
  • Remain hands-on where it matters most: prototyping high-risk/high-reward architectural bets, unblocking critical mobile initiatives, and writing code and design documents that serve as exemplars for the organization
  • Write production-quality code and build proofs-of-concept personally, not just review them, Procore's engineering leadership expects architects at this level to validate new architectural directions (e.g., Kotlin Multiplatform modules, GraphQL subgraphs) hands-on before asking teams to adopt them
  • Partner directly with engineering directors, VPs, and product/UX leadership to shape mobile and platform strategy; translate strategic objectives into a coherent, durable technical roadmap and hold the organization accountable to it
What We're Looking For:
  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in computer science, a related field, or comparable work experience
  • 15+ years of software engineering experience building and operating large-scale, distributed systems, including mobile (iOS and/or Android), cloud, and backend services, with 5+ years operating at Principal level or above with cross-team or organization-wide technical scope
  • Deep, current expertise across native mobile development (Swift/iOS, Kotlin/Java/Android) and modern backend/cloud stacks (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Java, Go, Node.js; GraphQL, REST, distributed systems design)
  • Hands-on experience with cross-platform mobile architecture (e.g., Kotlin Multiplatform, or comparable shared-logic approaches) and with GraphQL federation or backend-for-frontend (BFF) patterns at scale
  • Broad exposure to Mobile Platform capabilities such as offline-first sync and conflict resolution, mobile CI/CD and release automation, observability and crash/performance telemetry, or mobile security posture (e.g., SAST/DAST/SCA, OWASP MASVS) ,with the depth to go deep on whichever of these the role calls for, rather than expertise in all of them being a hard requirement
  • A track record of defining and delivering multi-year technical strategies that materially changed the trajectory of a mobile or platform organization, including platform consolidations, re-architectures, or cross-platform initiatives at scale
  • A demonstrated bias toward writing code, not just architecture diagrams, comfortable personally building proofs-of-concept and spikes to de-risk major technical decisions before committing the broader organization to them
  • Demonstrated interest or hands-on experience in AI-native engineering: integrating AI tooling into the SDLC or into mobile/backend products
  • Exceptional judgment in navigating ambiguity: the ability to identify the problems that matter most, frame them for executives and engineers alike, and drive decisions that stick
  • Strong communication and influence skills: comfortable presenting technical strategy to mixed engineering, product, and executive audiences, aligning stakeholders across mobile, backend, and platform teams
