About the Role:

We're looking for a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) to join our Platform Engineering team at Realtor.com. In this role, you'll help improve the reliability, scalability, and observability of the systems that support our engineering organization. You'll play a key role in a company-wide initiative to standardize our observability platform, migrating existing monitoring and logging tools to New Relic. Working closely with engineering teams, you'll help build and automate monitoring solutions, establish reliability standards, and improve the tools and infrastructure that keep our platforms running smoothly. This is a great opportunity for a hands-on engineer who enjoys troubleshooting, automation, and solving complex infrastructure challenges.

Top Reasons to Apply:

  1. Make an Impact on a Major Platform Initiative: Play a key role in modernizing Realtor.com's observability infrastructure as we standardize monitoring and logging across the organization using New Relic.
  2. Grow Your Technical Skills: Gain hands-on experience with AWS, Kubernetes/EKS, CI/CD, automation, and modern observability tools while tackling real-world reliability challenges.
  3. Collaborate Across Engineering: Work alongside talented engineers across multiple teams, helping build scalable, reliable solutions that improve how applications are monitored, deployed, and supported.

What You'll Do:

Service Reliability

  • Assist in implementing and monitoring SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets for consumer-facing services and critical user journeys
  • Monitor golden signals (latency, traffic, errors, saturation) across web, mobile apps, and backend APIs
  • Participate in production-readiness checklists and assist with operational reviews for existing and upcoming services

Observability

  • Configure and maintain observability instrumentation using New Relic or similar tools for APM, browser, mobile, logs, and distributed tracing
  • Support feature and service teams with integrating standard metrics, logs, and trace collection into their applications
  • Build and maintain team dashboards and alerts as code (using Terraform or similar tools) through standard CI/CD pipelines
  • Help monitor front-end performance metrics and Core Web Vitals across consumer web applications

Automation & Incident Response

  • Write scripts and small automation tasks to identify monitoring gaps and streamline routine operational workflows
  • Participate in the team on-call rotation; help triage active alerts, assist with incident investigation, and contribute to post-incident reviews
  • Document troubleshooting steps, update runbooks, and keep system documentation accurate and actionable

Technical Contribution

  • Work as an active individual contributor on the Platform Observability team, delivering assigned sprint tasks with guidance from senior engineers
  • Collaborate with feature, service, Consumer Engineering, and Client Engineering teams on observability adoption
  • Continuously learn and adopt modern SRE practices, cloud tooling, and observability standards

What You'll Bring:

  • 2–4 years of experience in Site Reliability Engineering, DevOps, or Software Engineering with a focus on system availability and monitoring
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • Hands-on experience working with observability and monitoring tools (e.g., New Relic, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana)
  • Familiarity with core SRE concepts, such as SLIs/SLOs, alerting thresholds, and error budgets
  • Practical experience working with AWS cloud environments and containerized workloads running on Kubernetes or Docker
  • Foundational understanding of Linux systems, networking concepts (DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, load balancing), and web architectures
  • Solid scripting and coding skills in at least one language (such as Python, Go, or TypeScript/JavaScript)
  • Experience using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and participating in CI/CD workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions, CircleCI)
  • Willingness to participate in a shared on-call rotation and support incident response efforts

Technical Skills

  • Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS (EC2, EKS, CloudFront, Route53), Docker, Kubernetes, Linux
  • Observability: New Relic, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry basics (APM, logs, metrics, tracing)
  • Reliability: SLIs/SLOs monitoring, alert configuration, basic synthetic checks
  • IaC & Automation: Terraform, Python, Bash, Go, or JavaScript/TypeScript
  • CI/CD & GitOps: GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Argo CD
  • Incident Management: PagerDuty, OpsGenie, Jira, ServiceNow

Professional Qualities

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to share technical updates and ask the right questions
  • Strong collaborative mindset and curiosity to learn from peers and senior technical leads
  • Methodical problem-solving approach to troubleshooting issues and diagnosing service disruptions
  • Dependable ownership of assigned work items, follow-through on operational tasks, and attention to detail
