The Role: 
We are looking for a Sr. Manager of Software Engineering to join our team. As a technical influencer at Realtor.com®, you will contribute across all stages of the software development lifecycle and system health under your remit. Your leadership and collaboration skills will drive impactful, cross-organization initiatives, delivering industry-leading solutions. You’ll play a pivotal role in designing and implementing innovative systems that empower individuals and landlords in their renting journey. Your direct impact will drive the achievement of critical OKRs.

What You’ll Do: 

Translate Strategy into Execution 

  • Convert product strategy into clear, actionable technology strategy and plans for your team

Drive Accountability and Results 
  • Own outcomes for your team, ensuring commitments are met with high quality and

  • Partner closely with product, design, and peer engineering teams to deliver shared outcomes 
  • Ensure strong engineering practices across design, testing, and operations 
  • Navigate dependencies and resolve conflicts to keep initiatives moving forward 
  • Facilitate healthy debate while ensuring decisions are made and executed 
  • Align roadmaps and execution plans across teams and organizations 
Provide Clear Stakeholder Visibility 
  • Create consistent, transparent reporting on progress, risks, and outcomes 
  • Proactively communicate updates to leadership and cross-functional partners 
  • Synthesize complex technical and delivery information into clear, actionable insights 
  • Ensure stakeholders understand tradeoffs, timelines, and impacts of decisions 
  • Build trust through reliability, clarity, and follow-through 
Lead and Develop a High-Performing Team 
  • Manage and grow a team of engineers across multiple levels 
  • Set clear expectations and provide regular, actionable feedback 
  • Identify and address performance gaps at both the team and individual level 
  • Coach and develop engineers and emerging leaders to increase their impact 
  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement 
  • Ensure team success is durable and not dependent on individual contributors 
  • Exercise sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential, sensitive, or 
  • ambiguous situations 
  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism in all interactions, especially under pressure or in high-visibility contexts 
What You’ll Bring: 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in leading software engineering teams in a technology company, 8+ years related experience  
  • A Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science/ Engineering or a related field, or equivalent professional experience  
  • A strong results and outcome-driven focus, understanding the value derived from rapidly shipping code and learning/iterating on the results  
  • Strong ability to coach and mentor engineers, helping them improve their skills and grow their careers  
  • Strong expertise in modern web architectures (e.g., React), backend development (e.g., Python), relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL), and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS).  
  • Hands-on experience with high-level design and familiarity with best practices and design patterns  
  • Strong empathy for our customers and a passion for exceeding their expectations, always! 
  • A passion for learning, continuous improvement, sharing, and working in a team environment
