Description

Westwood Professional Services, Inc. is seeking a Substation Engineering Intern, Protection and Controls, to join our team. This position will be a part of our Renewables Division. Westwood has a highly experienced and dynamic team of individuals dedicated to providing high-level professional services to our clients.

This internship is for Summer 2027.

Requirements

Required Experience:

• Actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from a recognized accredited program

• Demonstrates willingness to accept new challenges and learn specialized field

• Growing knowledge of profession as demonstrated by involvement in related professional organizations and professional development programs

• Basic knowledge of the firm’s policies, practices and procedures

• Basic knowledge of software required for position

• Good organizational skills

• Able to follow general directions and work with limited independence on basic computations

Duties and Responsibilities:

As an intern at Westwood, you will work alongside experienced professionals to learn about and help with the following tasks involved in a typical renewable substation project.

Development of all project drawings
  • One-lines
  • Three-lines
  • AC/DC schematics
  • Relay panel elevation and BOM
  • Control enclosure layout and BOM
  • Equipment and Relay Panel Wiring diagrams
  • Communication schematics and connection details

Development of studies / calculations

  • Station service AC load calculations and transformer sizing
  • Station battery / charger DC load calculations and sizing
  • CT Saturation studies
  • Voltage drop / cable sizing

Assist with development of major equipment specifications

  • Review P&C deliverables completed by others
  • Review equipment vendor submittals for conformance with specs and project requirements 
  • Cross discipline checks with other substation / service leads
  • Attend internal and external project meetings as needed
  • Assist Project Engineer with procurement and construction support tasks
