About the Role

The Principal Disaster Recovery will lead CrowdStrike's enterprise disaster recovery strategy and planning across both corporate IT and product engineering technology stacks. This role sits within the Technology Excellence & Resilience team, CrowdStrike's central resilience function responsible for enterprise-wide technology resilience standards, practices, and capabilities.

As a senior individual contributor, this role is responsible for ensuring that CrowdStrike's most critical technology systems — spanning internal IT infrastructure and customer-facing product and engineering platforms — are designed, documented, and maintained to recover reliably within defined objectives.

This role bridges DR strategy with hands-on technical DR planning, partnering closely with internal organizations to translate enterprise recovery standards into system-specific recovery plans, configurations, and procedures. Working in close partnership with the central resilience testing organization, the Principal Disaster Recovery serves as the enterprise authority on DR standards, planning quality, and recovery capabilities.

What You'll Do

Primary Responsibilities

  • Enterprise DR Strategy: Own and drive CrowdStrike's disaster recovery strategy across corporate IT and product engineering, ensuring a consistent, enterprise-wide approach to recovery planning that accounts for the distinct characteristics of each technology domain

  • DR Standards & Governance: Develop, maintain, and enforce enterprise DR standards including RTO/RPO tiering, recovery plan requirements, backup and redundancy expectations, and configuration standards across infrastructure, applications, and product services. Establish and maintain standards for DR plan documentation, ensuring plans are accurate, current, executable under pressure, and owned by the appropriate technical teams

  • Technical DR Planning: Partner directly with IT and Engineering teams to develop, review, and maintain system-level DR plans for critical technology assets — translating enterprise standards into technically sound, executable recovery procedures specific to each system or service. Lead the process of defining, validating, and maintaining recovery time and recovery point objectives across the technology portfolio, ensuring alignment between business criticality, technical capability, and recovery commitments

  • Practice Leadership: Mentor, coach, and guide engineering and IT teams on advanced DR best practices and resilience engineering principles.

  • Gap Identification & Risk Management: Continuously assess the DR posture of critical systems, identify gaps between current recovery capabilities and defined objectives, and drive remediation through appropriate technology teams

Secondary Responsibilities

  • Testing Collaboration: Partner with the central resilience testing organization to inform DR exercise design, provide technical context for test scenarios, and ensure test findings are incorporated into plan improvements

  • Recovery Validation: Consult on DR test execution and recovery validation activities, providing technical expertise to assess whether recovery procedures perform as designed

  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with engineering leads, infrastructure owners, and IT leadership to ensure DR planning remains integrated with system development and operational practices

  • Continuous Improvement: Analyze DR test outcomes, incident data, and near-misses to drive systematic improvements to recovery plans, standards, and technical configurations

  • Executive Communication: Translate DR posture, gaps, and program progress into clear, concise communications for senior leadership

What You'll Need

  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in disaster recovery, infrastructure engineering, site reliability engineering, or related technical disciplines, with demonstrated expertise in enterprise-scale DR planning across both corporate IT and cloud-native product engineering environments

  • Product Engineering DR: Proven, hands-on experience developing and maintaining DR programs for cloud-native product engineering environments, including microservices, distributed systems, and customer-facing platforms at enterprise scale. This is a core requirement of the role.

  • Technical Breadth: Proven ability to engage credibly across both corporate IT infrastructure (networking, servers, SaaS platforms, end-user systems) and product engineering environments (cloud-native applications, microservices, distributed systems)

  • DR Planning Depth: Deep experience developing and maintaining system-level DR plans, defining RTO/RPO objectives, and managing backup, replication, and recovery configurations for complex technology portfolios

  • Standards Development: Experience creating and maintaining enterprise DR standards, policies, and governance frameworks that can be consistently applied across various technology teams

  • Cross-Functional Influence: Demonstrated ability to drive DR planning adoption and accountability across engineering and IT organizations without direct authority over those teams

  • Technical Communication: Ability to translate complex technical recovery concepts into clear plans, standards, and executive communications that are actionable at multiple levels of the organization

  • Cloud Architecture Knowledge: Strong understanding of cloud-native DR patterns including multi-region strategies, data replication, failover automation, and recovery orchestration across major cloud providers

  • Problem Solving: Proven track record of identifying and resolving complex DR gaps across large, heterogeneous technology environments

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

  • Availability: Ability to provide leadership support during crisis and recovery events, including nights and weekends when required

Bonus Points

  • Background spanning both corporate IT DR and product/engineering DR disciplines at a high-growth, cloud-native, or SaaS technology company

  • Hands-on experience with backup and recovery platforms, replication technologies, and recovery automation tooling

  • Experience with observability and monitoring platforms as they relate to recovery validation and DR readiness

  • Familiarity with chaos engineering practices and their relationship to DR validation

  • Advanced knowledge of cloud provider DR capabilities and architectural patterns (AWS, Azure, GCP)

  • Experience with resilience maturity models and DR capability assessments

  • Certifications in disaster recovery, cloud architecture, or site reliability disciplines (e.g., DRCS, CISSP, AWS/Azure/GCP architecture certifications)
