Primary Responsibilities:
  • Sell Optum Whole Health Solutions (WHS) to new and/or existing clients in the payer market as the solution sales and subject matter expert across behavioral health, specialty health, complex care, and whole-person health solutions
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for assigned annual sales revenue goals and maintain a robust, qualified new business pipeline in partnership with Market Growth Executives and client teams
  • Bring deep clinical, product, or operational expertise across the WHS portfolio, including behavioral health; autism and ABA; substance use disorder; serious mental illness; behavioral utilization and care management; behavioral networks and digital tools; musculoskeletal; transplant and complex care; oncology; maternity; fertility; NICU; NurseLine; focused claims review; women's health; metabolic and cardiometabolic solutions; fitness; and strategic partnerships
  • Connect behavioral, physical, specialty, and social needs into cohesive whole-person solution strategies that address the client's population, benefit design, affordability, access, quality, outcomes, and member experience priorities
  • Translate clinical models, evidence, workflows, network strategies, analytics, and member journeys into clear payer value stories and differentiated solution recommendations
  • Lead detailed discovery with payer medical, behavioral, clinical, network, finance, operations, procurement, product, and technology stakeholders to diagnose needs and configure fit-for-purpose solutions
  • Serve as the primary WHS solution authority throughout the sales cycle, including demonstrations, clinical and operational deep dives, RFI/RFP responses, solution design, diligence, pricing inputs, contracting support, and implementation handoff
  • Develop consultative relationships and serve as a credible trusted advisor to payer clinical and business leaders, including Chief Medical Officers, behavioral health leaders, medical management leaders, and clinical operations executives
  • Partner with Market Growth Executives to align the client relationship strategy, opportunity plan, executive engagement, and WHS solution strategy while maintaining clear accountability for solution depth and accuracy
  • Partner with clinical, product, actuarial, analytics, finance, legal, implementation, operations, and account teams to develop differentiated, clinically credible, financially sound, and executable proposals
  • Develop and present business cases, ROI narratives, clinical outcome stories, integrated portfolio recommendations, and responses to complex client questions
  • Identify opportunities to bundle or sequence WHS capabilities to create greater clinical and financial value than stand-alone point solutions
  • Maintain current knowledge of behavioral health, specialty care, complex condition, whole-person health, payer, regulatory, and competitive trends, as well as Optum product roadmaps
  • Provide structured market and client feedback for product enhancement, portfolio integration, and new product development
  • Manage opportunities through disciplined pipeline reviews and accurate, timely CRM entry
  • Communicate issues, concerns, and problems in a solution-oriented manner and work independently as a solid team player in a fast-paced, high-intensity environment

Required Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of sales experience in and/or delivery of payer clinical programs, behavioral health, specialty care, complex condition programs, health services product/solution leadership, utilization management, care management, network management, consulting, or consultative solution sales
  • 4+ years of experience with utilization management, care management, clinical or specialty networks, digital health, complex condition programs, behavioral health programs, or related payer solutions
  • Demonstrated depth across multiple Whole Health Solutions domains and the ability to connect behavioral health, physical health, specialty care, and whole-person health needs into an integrated client strategy
  • Demonstrated ability to discuss clinical models, care delivery and operational workflows, networks, data, outcomes, implementation considerations, and financial value with payer experts
  • Demonstrated solid presentation skills across face-to-face, webinar, and phone-based client interactions
  • Demonstrated consultative approach and solid team orientation
  • Proven ability to support and/or lead complex payer sales cycles, discovery, solution design, demonstrations, RFI/RFP responses, business case development, and executive presentations
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with health plans and navigate complex, matrixed organizations
  • Proven client-focused orientation that balances client objectives with enterprise priorities
  • Proven superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel a minimum of 25%

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Active or previously active clinical license or advanced credential, such as RN, NP, PA, PharmD, PT, OT, MSW, LCSW, LICSW, LMFT, LPC, LPCC, RD, PhD, PsyD, MD, DO, or a comparable credential
  • 12+ years of combined clinical, behavioral health, payer, product, operations, consulting, or solution sales experience
  • Experience designing or commercializing integrated solutions that span behavioral health, physical health, specialty care, and complex populations
  • Health plan experience with a national, regional, or local plan organization
  • Deep knowledge of payer economics, clinical programs, benefit design, population health, and Medicare Advantage
  • Demonstrated solid professional reputation within the health care industry and access to senior payer clinical and business decision makers

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $75,000 - $160,000 annually based on full-time employment. This role is also eligible to receive bonuses based on sales performance. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
