Job Description SummaryAs the technical lead of this world class team, the Technical Leader of Controls Design will own all the controls aspects of design for Flexible AC (Alternating Current) Transmission System (FACTS) projects. In this role, you will be leading the controls engineering design team in all technical aspects to ensure all project design documentation is delivered on time, on budget and of excellent quality. This will also include creating and leading trainings for the design team for fixed series capacitors (FSC) and synchronous condenser (SC) solutions within GE’s Flexible AC Transmission Systems Americas portfolio.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities: 

  • Own the controls design of custom equipment design solutions, including leading design quality reviews and updating the review checklists for FACTS solutions for orders and proposals.
  • Mentor designers in communicating with internal and external team members such as principal engineers, senior engineers, project managers, engineering leaders and support organizations.
  • Train all controls design team members to improve skills and capabilities with both FSC and SC product lines. This will include development and leading training sessions for the team.
  • Participate in project and proposal schedule planning and ensure resource availability during both Inquiry to Order (ITO) and Order to Remittance (OTR) phases.
  • Contribute or lead the identification, qualification, deployment, training and maintenance of design tools and processes, for use across the design team and where applicable across the engineering organization.
  • Complete control system designs as required to meet project deadlines.
  • Play a key role in engineering design reviews and technical leadership, identifying potential project risks and technical weaknesses and proposing safe, reliable and compliant solutions. Review design documents, implement, and ensure quality deliverables on time and within targeted cost per engineering quality system processes.
  • Execute and provide guidance for the analysis / evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product / program requirements.
  • Facilitate cost reduction, cycle improvement, quality and lean programs to improve product performance, cost and/or delivery.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited university or college; and with at least 5 years of experience; or an Associate’s degree in engineering with 10 years of experience in the specific field to FACTS controls engineering design.
  • Support project quality procedures and initiatives including aspects of ISO9001.
  • Knowledge of and experience using IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards and codes as they apply to designs.
  • Excellent personal computer skills, including proficiency with Excel and Word, Autodesk products including AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be flexible with working hours and willing to travel to support projects globally.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% as required, which may include remote locations and international travel.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Ability to develop and implement standards and structured programs.
  • Experience specifying equipment for use in projects for the utility industry.
  • Knowledge of and experience using IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC, and NESC standards and codes, and ability to design packages when no clear customer specification is provided.
  • Superior communication in the English language and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to lead amongst peers and be accountable for team results to deliver a high-quality product on time and under budget.

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $98,400.00 and $164,000.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.

Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
