The Human Resources Operations Specialist is responsible for providing comprehensive HR support across a fast-paced, multi-site, multi-state organization. This role partners primarily with HR team members to drive consistent HR practices, support change initiatives, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic environment, demonstrates sound judgment, and adapts quickly to evolving business needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as member of the Groundworks HR Operations Center of Excellence as a part of a centralized team to deliver best-in-class HR services and Employee Relations.

Employee Relations

  • Support HR Generalists in providing guidance on employee relations matters, performance management, investigations, and corrective action.
  • Support HR Generalists to conduct Employee Relations investigations with detailed documentation.

HR Systems, Engagement, and Reporting

  • Collaborate within immediate HR team, with Division HR Business Partners, and cross-functionally with Payroll, Benefits, Talent Acquisition, and Legal.
  • Leverage Workday to process HR transactions, including employee data changes, position management and onboarding workflows. 
  • Support compliance audits and maintain required employment documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with multi-state employment laws, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure accuracy and timeliness of HRIS transactions while maintaining data integrity.
  • Prepare HR reports and provide insights and trends to drive business objectives

General Duties

  • Create and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and job aids to align with business and HR processes. Ensure documentation is clear, accessible, and promotes operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate on initiatives to build a positive workplace culture and enhance internal communication.
  • Guide and support managers and employees through performance appraisal processes.
  • Assist in developing and implementing action plans based on engagement survey results.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 1+ years of HR experience, preferably in a specialist capacity. Preferred background in Field support.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Microsoft Office Suite and other data management tools.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build strong relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred

  • Experience handling employee relations matters and conducting investigations is preferred.
  • Experience in coaching leaders.
  • Proficiency in Workday HRIS, including transaction processing and reporting is preferred.
  • Certification in HR (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus.

Working Conditions

  • This role sits onsite in either of our corporate offices, located in Virginia Beach, VA or Irving, TX, with occasional travel to field locations as needed up to 10% of the time. This role may be allowed up to one (1) remote day per week.
  • The compensation range for this role is $50,000-$70,000. Salary is based on experience.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods during the workday. Ability to occasionally lift and move objects weighing up to 15 pounds. Manual dexterity to operate standard office equipment such as a keyboard, mouse, phone, and copier. Visual and auditory ability to read and interpret information and communicate effectively with others.
