About The Role; 

We are currently recruiting a Reinsurance Operations Manager, who will work in a fast-paced, cross-functional capacity leading our day-to-day reinsurance operations while also serving as the primary business liaison for our ReAcct ceded reinsurance system. You will work closely with the Reinsurance Operations Sr. Manager, Reinsurance Procurement, Accounting, Data, and IT teams to ensure that new and renewal reinsurance contracts are set up appropriately within the ceded reinsurance subledger and that all aspects of reinsurance operations are performed accurately and on time. This includes the generation of cession and billing statements within the ceded reinsurance subledger as well as tracking outstanding receivables and payables with our reinsurance partners. You will also be the subject matter expert for the Company's ReAcct system, partnering with IT and external vendors to support the key deliverables from the Reinsurance Operations department.  

What You’ll Do: 

  • Learn and understand the current insurance and reinsurance processes and procedures used to record and maintain data necessary for reinsurance-related operational activity, financial accounting, reporting, and analysis
  • Review ceded reinsurance contractual terms for new and renewal reinsurance programs, tracking new business communicated by Business Development/Program Management and coordinating with the Reinsurance Procurement team
  • Partner with the Data and IT teams to define data requirements (e.g., coverage codes and other adjustments) needed to ensure accurate contract setup
  • Lead new and renewal program and reinsurance contract set-up (Quota Share and Excess of Loss); including partnering with the Data and IT teams to define data requirements, testing, and validating key system deliverables
  • Oversee reconciliations between the ceded reinsurance subledger and source systems; investigating and resolving any material variances
  • Manage the reinsurance cash application process, approving settlement details, and overseeing monthly reporting to the Treasury Department Ensure billing statements are issued to the market per contractual terms, and resolve broker queries and due-to/due-from settlements on a timely basis
  • Oversee all aspects of the ReAcct ceded reinsurance subledger by monitoring capacity, performance, and ongoing enhancement of the system, partnering with IT and external vendors to support the financial close, SOX compliance, and reporting needs of the Reinsurance Operations department 

Must Haves: 

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • 5+ years of experience of finance, accounting, or operations roles (public accounting or private)
  • Experience reviewing and approving the work of others
  • Intermediate Excel skills (PivotTables, VLOOKUP, SUMIF formulas) 

Nice to Haves: 

  • Experience working with a reinsurance or policy administration system (e.g., ReAcct or similar), including contract set-up, testing, and validation
  • Property & casualty insurance industry experience
  • Knowledge of US GAAP accounting principles
  • Knowledge of Insurance US Statutory accounting principles
  • Understanding of insurance financial operations including underwriting, claims, and reinsurance
  • Experience with ceded reinsurance accounting reports (e.g., Schedule F)
  • Experience overseeing an offshore or outsourced operations team

The Morristown, NJ base pay range for this role is $115,000 - $175,000. Exact compensation may vary based on several job-related factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to: skill set, experience, education/training, location, business needs and market demands.
